    Whats ur Professional Goal?

    Reason why i posted this, is i just want to know how many of you want to be "game programmers" and how many of you want to be "Application Programmers" or how many want to be "Any kind of coder"

    I think its a valid poll....

    Myself i vote Any kind of coder... altho my heart swings towards Application programming, either for global communications or any type of high tech... im not to thrilled with game programming.
    I was when i was young, but not anymore...

    Everything!

    I want to do Application and Game Programming. I think that it would be very fun to do. My goal is to Engines as well as main programming for games including EAX etc.. then I want to learn ASM real well for compatibility reasons with things other than just an OS. I want to be a very independant programmer, all I want is an artist!(if I ever reach this goal)

    I'd actually like to become a college professor later in my career. Meanwhile, I want to be a software engineer. So I guess that would be closest to application programmer. Graphics is just a fun hobby for me.

    Well I'm a professional app developer now. I develop games as a hobby but I'd love to write games for a living. The closest that I've gotten to that dream was the Space Invaders clone I wrote where you shot down invading boats (the company I work for is in the Oil & Gas industry) and when our CEO came down to our office he caught one of the guys playing it and said he liked it (our company logo was on the "hero" and our biggest competitor's logo was on the invaders).

    Oh, and this should be in the GD forum.

    You shall eventually reach this goal. If you have the ability to learn much from your own studies than you will go very far. Self teaching is a very profitable idea. Besides, you have the help of this messageboard (Most of the time). Just keep on trying.

    I dream that one day I shall replace Microsoft.
    Code:
    #include <cmath>
    #include <complex>
    bool euler_flip(bool value)
    {
        return std::pow
        (
            std::complex<float>(std::exp(1.0)),
            std::complex<float>(0, 1)
            * std::complex<float>(std::atan(1.0)
            *(1 << (value + 2)))
        ).real() < 0;
    }

    hehehe good feedback, and no this post doesnt belong in the GD forum....

    well i am more self taught than anything, altho im a 3rd year university student in CS, majoring in Software Development.

    Anyhow, C++ is my primary language and i do alot of research to keep up with technology... also suggest to any programmers out there who are dedicated and serious about coding to read the series of books by Donald Knuth, (you know which ones) they are called the "the Art of computer Programming", altho these books are not for the faint hearted.

    Altho i suggest many of you guys to go have fun and party, also its good that you learn and code now...

    Heh, I don't care what I end up doing professionally. As long as there is always something new to learn I'll be happy. I would love to be recognized for a special skill though.

    I don't think Microsoft will ever die. Only unless the govt. finds them doing some super-illegal stuff will they ever get close to seeing an end. Check out this article on MS's current financial situation. Simply amazing how much money this company really has.

    If you ask me, the company has way too much power. The government tried to split it up but it ended up opening doors for it. Ever play Resident Evil? I fear that Microsoft will become like the Umbrella Corperation. Possibly even worse.

    Nah, im not worried of big bad MS... actually i like them...
    (please dont flame)....

    I think tho they get a bad rap because of the innovation and hard work they do.. (please dont flame)

    I suggest for anyone who likes to take a look back at the beginning, read up on the start of Apple, IBM, Microsoft, Xerox, and BELL Labs. and you will see how serious the wars were back then, as compared to now.

    you may end up hating IBM more...

    I myself root for and will continue to fly my MS banner... (please dont flame)

    Why shall I flame? We have conflicting opions and that's fine. I'm not programming for the Windows operating system anyway. I'm using C++ to program in the Game Boy Advance. So I guess you can say I am a game programmer. All those who have heated arguments on this messageboard are in dire need of introspection.

    What I believe

    I believe that Microsoft(good innovations) concentrates way too much on commerce than on anything good at all. Their Operating Systems could be alot better stability-wise, and I know that their programmers dont just make 1 million mistakes, these OS's go into Beta tests and its not hard to realize that something is wrong right away. Then comes the price of their products, like look at Office XP, It is not worth $550 at all. Then instead of making one good OS they come out with new ones consistantly , saying "Find the one thats right for you!". For instance one Version of XP can support L2TP then another cant and the line just continues so that everyone runs around buying every one just to realize that their gonna buy the next one when it comes out. I think that they should try to make something that is all around decent and stop thinking about updates and "how can we charge people more etc.. "

    By the way didnt Bill Gates buy the general template for Windows off of afew other programmers? And wasn't it called Ruby or something like that?

    no not exactly, microsoft was working with Apple as contract workers, on a the new GUI... apple stole it from Xerox, and then Microsoft said we dont need u apple and finished off the GUI that you know and love today. basically MS beat the other two to the punch line...

    but there is alot about MS that people dont know... and should read up on
