    Question Avatars

Why the avatars are so small?
There's enough space to make them even 150x50!!!

Cuz every time you look at a thread you must effectively dl the avatars.

    This slows things down.

Now that i have a cable access, dl anything is not a problem.
But for you people who CAN NOT get anything better than 56k......i know your pain.
It is that i dont have to feel it any more, and believe me i feel great.
Maybe next i will get a T1 or something.

I want a cable connection, but I have a few problems

1 Flatmate who doesnt see the obvious benefits (???)
2 My flat is on the 4th floor
3 The building I live in is a listed building.
4 NTL does not yet cover py area ( I could use the BT one, but NTL offers a better deal)

One of the options you can set in the User CP area is to switch off avatars. If you are on a slow line, might speed your downloading.

I'm sorry, I might seem dense, but I got a little confused by fordy's post...

    1 - I got that one
2 - Why does it matter what floor your apartment is on?
    3 - Um... what?
    4 - see #3.

If you want to see some of the coolest avatars in creation
check out the board links to Macromedia.com dealing with
Flash. Unfortuately I don't have the url handy right now but
I can tell you there are some full-length cartoons people are
using as avaters on these forums. When I find the right
    url I'll post it here.

the area i live in isnt dsl, adsl or broadband enabled. The best we have here is disdn and as my machine is a laptop and its pretty difficult to install an isdn card on a laptop. My point is some of us are stuck on 56K and we dont want to have to wait 30 seconds to download 10 100K images.

I don't mind d/ling the little static pictures (since they're cached), but people having movies as their avatars would make me a little mad...

OK GC.... heres a tranlation for you american chaps......

2 My flat is on the 4th floor
Local companies often find an excuse not to fit something. This is an old building and wiring was not a prority when it was being designed.

3 The building I live in is a listed building.
It means that its old.... If your building is listed, you have to have special permission to do certain things. Such as bring the damn place into the 21st century

4 NTL does not yet cover py area ( I could use the BT one, but NTL offers a better deal)
In this area, telecommunications is split between 2 companies... BT and NTL. NTL are a cable company with some good internet deals
