    Help Me!!!

how many of you check posts like "help me!!!!!!" more than "using templates with gcc" posts? it just seems to me that these kinds of posts get ppl's attention better than other posts with easily over-look-able titles.

it just seems to me like i can't get one or two posts per problem, while some person saying "i can't find my xyz!" is getting 15+ posts on the problem.

People can only answer questions that they know the answers to. The more advanced you get with your work, the amount of people who know what you are talking about decreases. That is why the newb questions are answered so quickly because most are able to answer.

Honestly, I start with the oldest new threads when I log on. If I'm not in the mood to deal with newbie questions then I'll skip them and move on to the more interesting looking threads. Generally I'll at least view the interesting one with every visit, but not always the dull ones.

I don't always answer the interesting threads though, this is due to time constraints. The more advanced the questions are, the longer it takes to answer them appropriately as well as cover all areas of discussion and I don't have a great deal of free time to do so.

    >it just seems to me like i can't get one or two posts per problem
I consider answering every one of your questions, but I've noticed that you also tend to fix the problem yourself fairly quickly. So I'll usually move on without taking the time to solve a problem that you've already dealt with. That's one of the drawbacks of gaining my respect, I don't jump as quickly to help you if I feel you are capable enough to do it yourself.

    thanks... i guess...
guess that's the p.c. way of refusing...

what about the titles? do titles with the words "desperate" and "beginner" jump out more than specific topic titles? (like "binary addition")

I look at the newbie ones but I only like to spend my time on ones I find interesting (unless they only take a few seconds). I'm not a big fan of writing long blocks of code for an answer.

I to be honest usually check the posts i have replied to the last time i was here. then i see the real easssy one like - clear screen, wait, user input. Tell the newbies "DO A BOARD SEARCH YOU LAZY MORONS" and head for the gd board.

The title is important. I'm not as eager to visit a thread titled "Help!!!!" as I am threads titled something more like "Compiler design and implementation: token parsing". Ten times out of ten I'll look at the latter first.

I tend to start with the oldest unread in each of the forums I read. Sadly, moderating responsibility means I tend to look at most of the messages regardless of the title, (although those with really dumb HELP!!! type titles tend to be the ones most often in need of moderating).

i pretty much do the same as prelude, except i look into the ones with 0 posts or a large number of posts since it usually indicates a problem...

Anyway Steve, you just look for the ones that might have a rude punchline, right?

As time has been ever decreasing lately i usually only come here for very short periods to either deal with a moderating issue or to take a much needed break on the GD board from some brain numbing debugging session or something. But when i do go a answerin' i tend to just open up every post with 0 replies and answer those. If someone elses has already covered it, i dont really need to waste my time now do i? I dont usually answer posts that require huge amounts of code (due to the afformentioned time problems).

Hmmmmm. Isn't that a problem if the answer is "Yeah, that's happened to me too", or suchlike, or even just plain wrong!!
