    Delphi is a really good RAD tool. The best book I've seen is the Delphi Unleashed book, but I don't know how up to date it is.

    Yes it is. It's also a really good platform to write final apps. It's a shame that so many people think it's just for RAD.

    There's also C++ Builder. This is C++ which shares the Delphi IDE and Visual Component Library (now called CLX I believe). This is now available for Linux also.

    Davros is right about Borland C++Builder (http://www.borland.com/bcppbuilder/). This product offers the same Visual Component Library and the same rapid-application-development IDE as Borland Delphi without the different language, Object Pascal. Why learn a new programming language, when C++ programmers can take advantage of all the functionality of Delphi in the language they already know? That is my reasoning for voting against learning Delphi, at least.

    Errr, surely a RAD tool is for writing final apps quickly?

    Yeh, your right. It's just that I've seen so many people who think Delphi is for prototyping, or for producing things quick & dirty. But to write a proper app you must do it in VC++.

    (I'm not knocking VC++)
