In some cases this is true, however the trend is that most systems will continue to be upgraded in the short-term, than in one massive overhaul. As I had stated previously, in the US most systems are still the same as they were a decade or so ago.Gradually it becomes more expensive to maintain old systems than it is to add functionality through new technology (re-engineer).
You have failed to state how a system which supports XP is going to have an advantage over a system that runs Windows 9x/NT or UNIX/Linux for that matter. "Just because it's better" does not mean that it will be justifiable in all circumstances.
This isn't 1994. Windows 95 was only a success because it was the first OS of its kind introducing many advanced features (e.g-preemptive multitasking). But what has changed in Windows since? 98 was just 95 with enhanced USB/Web support, Me is a 98/NT hybrid with some "idiot-proof" functions tacked on. How will XP radically change the way in which we work, play or otherwise?

No you haven't. In fact you've dodged my questions - because you are making unjustified claims about XP and .NET. I agree that .NET has some advantages, but don't be so sure that it will be a success.

No, I don't know everything about .NET but in time I will because I'm going to be using it for sure.

And I have read that link, while yes it is a good outline of the .NET strategy, I prefer to read several sources of information before commiting myself to a view point. I've been reading about .NET since last year, and confidence in it is at best shaky. This is a big gamble for Microsoft, it will be interesting to see if it will pay off.
