    GIF Transparency

    Not sure how to interpret "Non-programming related topics", but I think this still works somehow...

    Here's teh problem I got: I've had it happen to me often where .gif files that have a transparency don't look as good on first load. When I scroll the image away and return back to it the picture look like it was intended to look... it's confusing. I get that all the time with teh "New Topic" and "Post Reply" images on this board as well.

    This happens mostly in IE (I got 5.0)... also had that in 5.5 as well, as far as I remember. Does anyone know what the cause for that could be?

    I made to identical sets of GIFs, only diff. is that one has transparent background... see if they look different to you....

    The weird effect disappears when you reload the page, so in order to see it again, you need to use tha [Back] button in your browseer and then hit [Forward] again...

    Can you tell me what browser version you are using? Cuase I think this is where the problem lies (or it's just my eyes )

    There is a difference* ... then again I'm at work and using IE 5




    *Only difference I noticed was that the bottom .gif's shadowing was a bit fuzzy, and not as clear as the shadow of the top .gif.

    i see that difference, too (on the screenshot)
    when i look at the website, it looks identical

    This is freaking me out, I get that about half the time... I'm not trusting the transparent gifs anymore, but that sucks... as soon as I change the background, I need new images.

    The thing is, the weird effect is not even consistent on my machine (I had that happen on other ones at the library and computer center, so it's not just me...). Most of the time this happens when I view a page follow a link, then go back [using BACK button in browser] to that page and images look funky...

    I guess as long I'm the only one that the problem targets (those evil evil aliens), I think I can just not case because most of the people see it just fine. I just don't want a page to come out looking all funky just because of some transparency issue in a browser...

    What do you guys suggest, do I stay away from transparent gifs or what? Is the problem so small (just me) that it doesn't matter?
