That seems open to interpretation. Some people say it is a Masonic symbol. The U.S. Bureau of Engraving doesn't say much other than it is a spiritual symbol.

Oh, and I like your new avatar, blight2c ;)

Thanks. I knew it was had something to do with masonry (sp?), just didn't know what it was exactly... to think about it, we have lots of different symbols on our currency that I don't understand... which is kind of weird, using the money without knowing what's on it. ...but then again, as long as you have money, you don't care what's on it, right?

I tend to care about the numbers on each corner ;)

I don't really pay attention to what is on currency unless it is foreign. U.S. curency is boring.

The only thing I pay attention to is the number printed a bunch of times.

This too is open to debate. This elusive "spider" is no more than a mere design easter egg done unintentionally. It is the back right side towards the upper corner in the border "weaving".

that symbol is the symbol of an italian-based undergroundish type organization called the Social Illuminati... i think that some of the founding fathers of the US were members of it.

i'm willing to bet my mother-in-law's life that the "spider" on the GW side is really an perched eagle
