question to anybody who knows tax laws of ohio

Yes, I know this is a coding board, but taxes are due monday and Local is due on the 30th, and I'm stupid about such things.

It appears that my employer didn't withhold local income tax (as required by law in the State of Ohio), and now I have to pay them out of my pocket. Can anybody tell me if I can pressure the company into paying it for me due to negligence?

Well...It depends on how much "pressure" you apply. Go over the line and you've got blackmail. You try to defend yourself in court, but they have got million dollar corp lawyers for a reason you know...So don't try it. Maybe just kind of negotiate and let them know that you could have reported them but you are loyal and loyal people should get paid more, and of course go ahead and pay the tax. Trust me, the IRS notices a lot sometimes.

Windows XP consists of 32 bit extensions and a graphical shell for a 16 bit patch to an 8 bit operating system originally coded for a 4 bit microprocessor, written by a 2 bit company, that can't stand 1 bit of competition.

I wouldn't advise it. There's almost no chance that the company will pay your income taxes. If they do, they'll get screwed over and audited and you also. If you ask and they refuse then you can say goodbye to your future at the company, but I dont know how important that is to you. And a problem with unions is that they are a little aggressive, and high rankers hate them (with some reason). If you are the cause of a company-union dispute then you will be extremely unpopular with both your bosses and some of your coworkers who just wish to be left alone to do their job.

Granted I could pay out of my pocket, it's just a nuisiance, especially since one of my full time co-workers owes the city of tallmadge $2000 is makes the measly 2% I owe seem like nothing, but these problems should've been handled 10 months ago when we told the accounting people that they weren't withholding tax then.

I know, doesn't really make sense to most of you, given only a few states mandate local income tax be withheld, but Ohio is one of those states and when the company leaves the problem open for 10 months and the meanwhile has left my friend and I spending all of our money on porn, it just gets a little annoying.

Aha! It is the companies responisbility to reconcile municipal income tax withheld! At least, I think it is; unless I'm interpereting this employer tax form wrong:

Did you inform the company in _writting_ that they were not with holding the correct tax?

If so it is more their fault to rectify the problem. Did they pay you the extra that should have gone to the tax or did they keep it? If you have it, you have to pay it back.

BUT, if teh job is inportant to you then be careful not to push too hard.
