After several years of experience what do you think of computer programming in general?

You should be ashamed. Someone as good as you should atleast enjoy it.

For me, it depends on the mood im in. Sometimes im very excited to sit down and code, and other times I loath it.

There is a big difference between coding what you feel like and what you are paid to code. You can't give up, change if you don't enjoy it or not solve the problem / bugs. Plus you must work to a deadline. Sometimes you must work with people you don't like or agree with, part of any job.

Spending about 50hrs a week for a few years can dampen your enthusiasm for anything.

Beter than anything else I have done though (the pay is greater than most things I have done) as it is a mental challenge.

Yeah, but it's up to us to make our jobs as developers fun. My main job is developing DB apps ( almost as borings as writing video drivers ) but I find ways to make it fun. Slipping little easter eggs in the payroll system and accounting system (harmless, but extremely funny) make it all worthwhile.

I enjoy it thoroughly, which is why I get home from work and program things that I want to. The boring part is just to put food on the table and pay the electic bill so that I can code at home
