Oh yes, I just wanted to say that we don't call it the US.
If a German says "Amerika" it means USA, not America.
Our headlines are "America under attack", "America at war".
btw: I am from europe.

She was so Blonde, she spent 20 minutes looking at the orange juice can because it said "Concentrate."
When in doubt, read the FAQ.
Then ask a smart question.
I knew it, you can bet on it!"I am from europe."
Well, hungarians also say just America, speaking of the US. Just ...a little bit confusing, isn't it?
If somebody would say Europe thinking of France?
It's all about national pride, and each nation has it.

How much do we need to clarify such a simple use of a term? Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill.
America to an Australian or New Zealander means the United States of America. Not Canada, or Mexico, or South America.
Europe is a whole new ball game. Clearly there are vast differences between cultures in Europe. I wouldn't refer to an Irish person and a Hungarian as both European - that would imply they are both of the same culture. I would say the Irish person is from Ireland, and the Hungarian is from Hungary.
Ok, let's do it!"Talk about making a mountain out of a mole hill. "
...and you'd have about 60% to be right, as Hungary lost about 50% of his territory and population in World War II (Transylvania was the biggest part, which was attached to Romania)."I would say the Irish person is from Ireland, and the Hungarian is from Hungary."
About Ireland, you must probably know what's going on there .
Things are not so easy and self explanatory. Life and history is much more complicated.

Well I am half Irish actually, so yeah I do know what's going on over there. Both the IRA and UFF are as bad as each other. Another problem which may never go away..
Ya wanna know what I think is the funniest thing about our America/US argument? It's being argued by an Australian, German, and a Hungarian. Sorry, I think it's funny...
Anyways, in general, America refers to the US, yeah. I think ober brought the thing up in the first place in case someone from Mexico or Argentina or smth didn't like it. Your "discussion" has been amusing, tho

Well America throughout the 20thC has involved itself in most parts of the world - either through politics or capitalism - why can't we have a "discussion" about you yanks?
Hehe, that is sorta funny, govt. Anyway, who really cares? Half the time when I'm referring to the US I just say America. I guess it's party because we're "Americans" not "United Stateans" Just like you don't refer to a Canadian as American, or a Mexican as American. That name is reserved for us!
of course... but America, USA, the States, and most of North America went to a lot of trouble to not have to call this continent anything
Australians and americans might call this continent just ... Mother Europe.
>Australian, German, and a Hungarian.
niice..... oh, where have you been carlos? hmmm... yeah, you realize that the states or... 'america' isn't really all of 'america'... and did you know that the term 'america' was named after amerigo vespucci? now you know that!
hasafraggin shizigishin oppashigger...
Sorry, doubleanti, you really don't need to teach me history.niice..... oh, where have you been carlos? hmmm... yeah, you realize that the states or... 'america' isn't really all of 'america'... and did you know that the term 'america' was named after amerigo vespucci? now you know that!
Neither geography. Btw, there's a proof that vikings discovered the New World, so, it should be called err... New Denmark .
Btw, I don't understand why are you telling me all these ?
And your answer has nothing to do with the qoute "Australian, German, and a Hungarian. ", which isn't mine as well!.
Some troubles with your logic, or we are just not compatible, huh?

Of course, Natase, you surely mean Euro .of course... but America, USA, the States, and most of North America went to a lot of trouble to not have to call this continent anything
Let's not start a war about who made trouble whom, as it might lead to unpredictable results .
Btw, your name (your nics at least) doesn't sound like a real english one, am I right (got a wild guess, if I'm wrong, I do apologize)?
Maybe you have some closer relation with the "old" continent... Why do you hate poor, old Europe? Please, don't be such a narrow-minded local-patriot.

sorry... didn't mean it that way... just a pointless fact o' day...
hasafraggin shizigishin oppashigger...
erm... I believe this was a reply to your post on the same subject... don't see how either of us are enciting war exactly...Let's not start a war about who made trouble whom, as it might lead to unpredictable results .
I was just trying be clever by writing all the different ways of speaking of North America...
As far as I know my nick isn't a real word in any language... just something I've used since BBS's were the norm... if it indeed does mean something in a foreign language I would be most interested to hear itBtw, your name (your nics at least) doesn't sound like a real english one, am I right (got a wild guess, if I'm wrong, I do apologize)?
I was born in Wales (during my parents last-ditch effort at a world trip before I tied them down) and have lived in New Zealand since before I turned 1. I have therefore seen the world but was unfortunately too young to remember or appreciate it.Maybe you have some closer relation with the "old" continent... Why do you hate poor, old Europe? Please, don't be such a narrow-minded local-patriot.
So... if you're through calling me names...........
Natase is a romanian (male) name."As far as I know my nick isn't a real word in any language... "
Sorry, Natase, really didn't mean to offend you (hope, you don't think so, you know, hungarian temperament ), but I traced some cynism in your words -"So... if you're through calling me names..........."
"of course... but America, USA, the States, and most of North America went to a lot of trouble to not have to call this continent anything".
Are you from Wales? Is it true, that in welsh you call beer "crwrwr" ????
