    If they mention its not a virus, is it?

    Just a thought - there's a tonne of people who asks questions about things you would rarely do for a program, and at the end they say "it's not a virus or anything". Wouldn't this denote that they viruses on the brain, and it probably is a virus? What are your thoughts?

    For someone to say "it's not for a virus or anything" without anyone even insinuating it first almost screams of guilty.

    It's like when I walk into the kitchen and my 7 year old son has chocolate on his face and through a mouthful of crumbs he mumbles "I didn't eat any cookies."

    Not necessarily. I remember I was trying to make something for school that involved editting the registry. Because I knew very little win API, I tried to assure people that I wasn't creating some crap version of a virus. One of the main reasons I mentioned it was that I know many programmers are cynical and always fear the worst. I was not creating one, and I think many thought I was. This led to a great deal of silence and a never functional program.

    golfinguy4, I can understand where you're coming from. All I'm saying is that if someone makes a comment like that in the original post before even giving anyone a chance to reply it's kind of awkward.

    I would say that very many programs store, modify and delete things from the registry, I can't remember a serious application I've written that didn't, so mentioning virii may have been counter productive as most, I believe, would not have suspected that with that question.

    When someone asks how to reformat the hard drive, or write to the boot sector, or that kind of thing, I always suspect the worst, and don't answer, especially if their message begins something like...

    h4 dudez

    etc.

    I want a non destructive virus on my computer that randomly gains control of the video buffer after windows boot, paints the screen white, and the middle finger is raised from the bottom of the screen to the middle. Then it vanishes, and windows continues normally.

    So every third, fourth, fifth, etc (random) boot... the middle finger is raised.

    I just think that would be funny....

    Ok, this is what I think, if you're a programmer you automatically want to be ABLE to make a virus, KNOW how to make one, even if you never use it on anybody you want to be able to make one.
    There are some real morons in this world please do not become one of them, do not become a victim of moronitis. PROGRAMMING IS THE FUTURE...THE FUTURE IS NOW!!!!!!!!!

    Left cprog on 1-3-2005. Don't know when I am coming back. Thanks to those who helped me over the years.

    Nah. He's talking about animation and running at random (or at least not running on every boot). Logo.sys is just a *.bmp.

    so, have some program that is always running, and starts up every time they turn on their computer, creating some rand()%whatever then checking if it equals something, if it does then set some happy video mode and do the animation? Have it do something to make it work some days and not others like:

    Code:
    if(rand()%7==0)
    EnterLoop();
    else
    ExitProgram
    thats when its starts of course, so assuming they turn on their computer every day there is a one in seven chance it will be activated that day and.

    That what your talking about?
