to: master o' web... and other ones of you as well...

i think that the polls per day thing is good. but i was thinking about how many registered users were at the old board and how blatantly large it was (lots o' people left, y'know how it is...) and i was thinking that we should require e-mail (valid ones) address at sign-up, and if the posts-per-day gets too low (i'll let you decide), we should delete their account or send them a notice or something like that, unless they go on vacation or the sort (and give you notice of it). what do you say?!? what do you all say?!?

so your suggesting people have to make a mininnum of say 3 posts per day or their account is disabled.

*This defeats the object of the free and relaxed board
    *less people will use it
*people will post crap just to get the mininum level

Yeah, I think going by any number of posts is a bit strict. Something like, if you don't visit/login for a few months would be better.

yeah i prefer a day count rather than posts. Say suspend an account if a user doesnt log in for 28 days , then after two months disable the account and release the user name.

yeah, you see, it shouldn't have to be called a 'minimum', it's purpose should only be to clear up the signed-in users array (? table, listing, whatever)... a 'minimum' sounds (and is) restricting, but this would rather be just such that the signed-in users doesn't get groggy like it did with the old one... i mean, 2410 Registered Members, c'mon...

I would say a one year hiatus from the last post
should get your membership cancelled, if it's that
important to the webmaster. I don't recall seeing
any such function in the UBB control panel that
tracks a member's posting history for this purpose,
however. Then again, the program is cgi and easily editable.

I talked about deleting threads that were a waste time/offensive, and I get told I'm being dramatic. You're suggesting deleting accounts, and nobod seems to mind!

it's in the approach [stealth]... and besides, they are two very different things. i'm going for the mere housekeeping of the members listing... whereas if you delete posts based on someones opinion [or lack there of a mind to make one instead of posting gibberish], then you are in that way restricting the freedom of the board. of course, i might be wrong... and besides, blatant posting is not out of hand here anyway.

New board looks great. To keep it that way we will need to have a system that will disable accounts after a certain period of time. Personally, 1 year seems to long. I think 1 month should be enough. A smaller time frame might disable legitimate accounts just because they took a vacation or something.

Guess we have to start all over on our post counts since this is effectively a new account on a new board.

Really hope this board does not get crammed with useless posts like the last one.

I dont agree with deleting user accounts just because they havent posted anything in a few days - I was signed onto the old board for a few months and i think i only posted twice.... however in that time i did sign in twice a day and read posts and do a lot of searches on the boards. Maybe it should work that if someone has not logged in for 60 days then the account is disabled (people can go on holiday for a month)

Yeah, I have to agree with basilisk, I don't really want to feel presssured into posting just to avoid getting the 'boot'. I suppose I should actually log in more often when I visit though...

Deleting members based on not logging in sounds like the way to go. Some times I log in, but don't post, so like others this would cause me to get deleted because of not posting. Although here lately I have been posting almost every day.

ay! what's with this misconstruction! i'm not saying there should be a definitive automated boot kicking boot which kicks you off w/o notice nor plea. i meant to say that we should keep this board clean... which does not construe at all that we should have a 'minimum' or any restriction of the sort...

point being: keep this board clean... don't get the user array cluttered...
point not being: a limit, a 'minimum', a 'posts per day' yadda yadda yadda. it's all the webmaster's and respective user's consent...

ahem... [don't mean to be mean...]
