I've heard a lot of bad things about Windows XP, but it seems to be quite wide spread. Can I get a quick profile of Windows XP, it's good [if any] and bad points?

XP to me has been the best OS I've ever had, period. It's user Friendly and it is very stable. Although some people complain about it's security. Well I have a firewall running, plus an antivirus just in case. Win2k and XP are pretty similar to me, but XP it's "prettier" .

Left cprog on 1-3-2005. Don't know when I am coming back. Thanks to those who helped me over the years.
Well XP doesn't really have DOS, so many DOS games won't work. It also has a few issues with things, like you'll need the newest version of anti-virus programs, bruning software, and some other utilities. Oh yeah, and I have heard of a few times that it may delete everything you have on your hds, but I have used it since it came out, and wouldn't go back to any other OS.

Generallly accepted advice: If you're not running windows 2000, upgrade to XP. XP is basically 2000 with a facelift, (and perhaps, more pushing of it's services, but that probably doesn't annoy you like it does me ) and 2000 was the first really stable OS from MS.
My advice: Get Linux Mandrake .
just don't run xp with goback and try to dual boot with linux...my system didn't like that... That was the only main issue I personally had with xp, but it was goback's fault
XP is the best Windows OS yet. I like it alot.
i've had problems loading pirated ms software on xp, stealing just ain't what it used to be . . .
This negs the question - how to get Linux and XP running on the same machine effieciently?Originally posted by Korn1699

sorry "begs the question".
And has anyone else had trouble with XP and ..ahem... *whispers* pirated software?
Install XP first, make a partition for Linux, install linux. That should work fine.
But don't install XP after installing linux, it doesn't recognize the Linux partition and is likely to overwrite it.

WinXP is a piece of junk trying to take over your computer by NOT allowing / disrupting any other OS to work on it... So until this problem is fixed, you will have a h*** lot of trouble trying to partition with FAT32.
Get WinE on Linux... It works for any Win apps. Please, don't help Bill Gates take over the world.
Yoshi
Does this sound odd to anyone else?- SilentStrikeInstall XP first ..., but don't install XP first ....
Erm.. hey, that's not right... look at the post now.
I couldn't have possibly editted the post.. not, not at all.
Anyway, so ummm, yeah, crack is bad for me .
XP is probably the best Windows OS i've ever used. Beware of security though..
I have the code right here which will allow me to execute any command on your machine once you visit my webpage... this is just one of the GAPING holes Microsoft has yet to fix.
Dual, have you told microsoft yet? You might be able to get some dough for it.
