    What jobs?

What jobs do you guys do? How many of the people who join in the discussions here actually make their living by bashing out code all day?

To kick things off, I'm an ATM (cash dispenser) Product Specialist with a 3rd party maintainer in the UK (before anyone asks, I don't know how to get the cash out without a card ). I do a lot of the backroom work involved in the maintenance of new products etc. Really started to learn C++ because, having been involved in hardware for 20 odd years, I thought it was time to see the other side, and also to get a better understanding of how things work.

I'd be interested to hear what other people do.

    Cheers,

    Rob.

I'm working for just a few years now. After I finished technical university in embedded systems, my first job was in audio systems, developing and maintaining audio software at a small company. Last year I moved to a large company involved in automotive software (navigation systems, car radio, etc.) and I've planned to stay here for a longer time since I'm learning quite a lot here, as well in the field of technologyl and software development process. But most of all, this company offers me the possibility to work in foreign countries.

    Regards,

I program embedded micros for Michigan's largest energy company. Because I'm a lowly co-op, management doesn't see fit to get me the equipment I need, so I get paid to surf the web.

Well, I'm a software engineer, planning and designing the software for our corporation, and, if time permits, even coding it

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.

    Amen Brotha!

I am supposed to be the FSA (Functional Systems Administrator: aka I take care of all the computers in the bldg, including servers) in my Squadron. Well, they won't make me an administrator or give me a magnetic card key thingie to open the server room door. So bascially, I get paid to sit on my ass, surf the web, anwer a call or two. And when someone calls be b/c their computer is acting screwy, I just call up NCC and tell them "Hey, its Khaymyn, in Contracting, PD2 server is acting screwy", and they say "OK, we'll check it out". I love civil service!

I actually get paid to bash out code all day. I'm also the kind of person who will sit down and read an RFC or Internet proposal for fun (geek!), so I am usually the one tasked with any project that will require a bit of research.
