Is MS phasing out the MFC in .NET ?

if not, are they phasing out any components
that aren't worth learning now ?

The MFC and .NET are two different things. There is a new version of the MFC in VS.NET. MS didn't mention anything about phasing it out, but if .NET gets successful, it might happen in two or three years.

Learning something is never wrong. Learn as much as you can.

When in doubt, read the FAQ.
    Then ask a smart question.

    Microsoft will phase out programming.

In the future you will have to send your program design to Microsoft with a million dollars, and then it will be added to the Microweb.

    You just wait...

Learning many programming languages and tools gives you the chance to get a grasp of the concept that lies behind them. No language or API will last forever. If you cling to one, you will always be a step behind. Learn as much as you can, but be prepared that there is no such state as 'done learning'.
