Kind of makes you feel like this is all a game, with God
unseen up there, controller in hand. I think He's playing
Unreal Tournament with a bunch of the other Gods. Or
maybe Empire Deluxe, or Civ II.

    >>I don't like it. Nobody wants it. But that's the way it is.

    I don’t either.
You see attitudes change every so often. I have seen it happen here.
I don’t think you can cure terrorism with more violence. You can’t be a
fanatic without a cause. Don’t provide any more causes to today’s
    children.

To do nothing, to say nothing, is to accept that it will happen and that
is the way it has to be. I’m not part of the silent majority.

    >>Have you ever read Nevil Shute's, On the Beach?
I have seen an old B&W movie, remember some of it. Can’t remember why
they were the only ones left.
I live near the sub base here.
Did you know we rent our torpedos of you? I think we still do, we have
new subs now. When they practice with them they have 24 hrs to get them
back before they scuttle themselves. I doubt we can afford to lose one,
    the Aus$ being crap.

    >>Novacain, you are suggesting that the U.S. should lay down its life so
that others who are repugnant to us should live. That makes no sense at
    all.

No. So the rest of the world can, if launching yours was the difference
between nuke winter or not. (I won’t quote Spock)
Given I don’t think that the terrorists will use a nuke. They know the
response. They pushed the limits as it is.

Pakistan might on the USA, India might on Pakistan. The US won’t on
    Afghanistan. (my opinion)
Biological by the terrorists is a possibility, a big one if the reports
are right. Cheap, easy to make, transport and deliver for a high impact
    result.
This is the first war since Vietnam that they are calling a ‘ground’
war, and, like Vietnam, the conditions are hostile, the locals against
you and the enemy very experienced. Ten years and 13.000 troops killed
for the Russians and the people they were fighting had a country. I
don’t think they will send troops in till after winter. (except the
    ‘advisers’)

I believe Russia has ‘lost’ some ‘backpack’ nukes designed for a small
team to take out a city.
If the WTC had been a nuke, who would have got nuked back? If one hit
Washington tomorrow, who would get nuked?

    Betazep
Got to respect a though out opinion/response. I agree with your dad but that is another ‘discussion’ (if not you).

    >>I know why the terriost hate us, and there bull. One of the main resons is because we defened kuwiat aganist suddam. He does not like that fact were there,

I don't think this is the reason. The reason is that you propped up the Saudi king, the Iran Shar, then suppiled Sadam against Iran, support for Israel and have not left Saudi since the gulf.

    >>or even when we sent hummanitar releif to a south african country in witch he is responsable for the death of 7 or 8 soiders.
I believe you are talking about the US marines killed in Nigeria.

As he considers this area 'sacred ground' for the Muslims. Now you are going to bomb Afghanistan, Bin Ladan is probably not even there. He would need modern communications to organise his response and would not want to offend his hosts, the Taliban. (he is probably in northern Pakistan)

This guy is very good at what he does. Proof, you are yet to find him. Look how 2 days before the WTC he had the Northern Alliance leader blown up.
A former Mhu-jhadin(?) from Pakistan, he would have been used as the ralling point for the opposition to the Taliban.

Luckily... none of us on this board (the americans anyway) are the leaders of the country. All eyes are on these people lately... like Colin Powell and Rumsfield and others. They are strong leaders that have met this type of terrorism in the past and dealt with the world for longer than many of us have been alive.

I trust that they will make strong, well-placed decisions in this matter. We haven't nuked anybody... and besides arresting a few people, we haven't even taken much action. Probably to suprise of many... even the Taliban are sweating it.

Patience under fire is something the military looks for in leaders. Judgment and deliberation go hand in hand with time. I think I will be impressed with the things these leaders will accomplish. If they make my wife and child feel very safe in the many years to come... then that is enough for me. I know that they will have to disband these terrorist organizations for that to happen... I wouldn't mind if the head leaders were put to death. But once again, I am not a leader of America.

I don't know how many of you guys own Jump-to-Conclusions Mats (like the Office Space take-off? ) but things are not always black and white or written in stone it seems.... so maybe we should all put our mats away and be patient. The only bad thing (from the viewpoint of most) thus far is five thousand plus people died.

I'm 19. There is a first year of college waiting for me and I'm shocked by what is happening behind the ocean. We're also calling up reinforcements and guarding important structures here in CR. I think it has nothing to do with me and I know it's the problem of whole mankind too. You know what? I'm afraid. I'm no hero. Maybe war is inevitable. A guy like me can only pray to God, so he won't let more lots of innocent people die.

Maybe this looks funny because of my strange English, but think of its substance instead...
    Please excuse my poor english...

I wasn't gonna post here again, but that obviously didn't happen.

larry, I totally agree with you.

For all of you that are spouting about the evils of the US... Why don't you go read about what just happened in Switzerland... We're not any more evil than another country - we're just louder.

    Thumbs down Nope

I truely am sorry for what happened in the Switzerland and USA, but killing all the terrorists, even bin Laden doesn't help at all. There will always be some crazy mother****ers who wants to wipe out the whole civilization. Even if it means losing their own lifes. But if it would be possible to stop all the terrorist acts by killing them, I would be on your side.

    P.S.
Nothing happened here in Finland yet....

Well Tampere is a major target... especially with all of those "art coats" hanging over by the movie theater... (you may have never been there... but I thought the coats were funny)

    >Can’t remember why they were the only ones left. <

I read On the Beach when I was in high school, in the early
60's, a long time ago, eh? The book was a national sensation
here in America. The term "nuclear winter" had not been coined,
but the word most often associated with it was "nuclear fallout."
If I'm not mistaken, the premise for the nuclear war was a conflict in (where else) the Middle East. Nuclear testing in the
60's was a hot topic because of the cold war and the fact that
one of the reasons for the tests was to measure fallout and its
effects. So Nevil Shute wrote this megaseller, On the Beach,
which tells the story of the final days of remaining human beings,
who are Australians. They are dying because of fallout, what we
now call a nuclear winter. They know they are dying and they
spend their last fews hours alive together (two main characters
here, a man and a woman, lovers) on some beach swimming
and making love in Australia. They both die at the end, along
with the other remaining survivors who are in South Africa. Nobody survived the war. That's the way I remember it.

That's what the papers are telling us--not to expect anything
until after the winter season. They're rounding up a lot of Arabs
    in this and other countries.

    >I believe Russia has ‘lost’ some ‘backpack’ nukes designed for a small

If the WTC had been a nuke, who would have got nuked back?<

    Nobody.

If one hit Washington tomorrow, who would get nuked?

Afganistan for sure. After that, it depends on the Iranians and
Iraqis. Pakistan is shaky and might be the next target for the
Islamic militants. I'm fairly convinced now that all this posturing
by muslims about how peace loving they are is just that. It's
a big lie. The mass demonstrations in Pakistan, Afghanistan,
and other Islamic states against the United States proves to
me that most muslims do not want peace with us.

The events of September 11 were a wakeup call for all Americans.
When the Islamics set off the first nuke(s) or biological agent
in or near Washington, that will be the wakeup call for the rest
of the world. Our politicians need to realize what the possibilites
of a germ attack on Washington could accomplish for the terrorists. Practically instant victory. All our eggs seem to be
planted in one place with no thought of redundancy. This might
have to change because of the changed face of how this war
will be fought vis a vis preceeding wars. We need to spread out
more. And in spite of all the flag waving and patiotic displays I see
around me, I question this country's committment to see this
thing through the way it needs to be carried through--ruthlessly,
and without mercy. We are giong to take another hit, in my opinion, before people here finally get the message of what
unfortunately has to be done. We aren't mad enough.

Your English does not look strange. It looks very good. Tell me:
what are people in the Czech Republic saying about the attack
on the U. S. and a possible response by the U.S. to the attack?
My son-in-law lives in Kaliningrad, Russia by the way, not too
    far from you, eh?

novacain If he used modern communciation he would have been caught by now. Every phone call in the world is monitered. He avoids the phone. He's in afganistan as he has recived the message to leave the country volantarly.

Rick, if you actually paid attention to anything that was going on you would know that 15% of Pakistan’s population is protesting US military action..... believe it or not 10-15% of this country opposes US military action.

This country can bomb the hell out of Afghanistan, Pakistan, and whole damn Middle-east yet it wont accomplish anything.

You jump to conclusions without analyzing the whole situation, and label an entire group of people based on what a small percentage does. It shows me that your not an intelligent person at all.

Finally someone that knows what's actually going on. I've also heard a lot of people say that the reason is that they oppose our freedom and democracy.... sure that’s a great patriotic answer, but its a bunch of bull.
