    Recruiting members for game development organization

    Hello, my name is Ruflano and I'm 16. I was/am studying C++ since I was 14. I know some functions such as cout and stuff like that. I am currently making a project containing all of the functions I know(arrays, variable storage, strings, loops, random number, text color, recieving user input). When I grow up I want to be a game designer. I'm learning a little bit of C++ to make me more "employable" in the gaming industry. I have decided to form this game development organization. It will consist of rookie C++ programmers, veteran programmers, and some designers(who own programs such as Adobe workshop or anything like that). Though I want more rookies in the team than veterans. I want veterans in the team to act more as "teachers". The purpose of the group is for all rookies to learn new things together. So that all(people in the group) of our knowledge expands together. This could be a great learning experience. C++ is a difficult language to learn. I am working on the group's name right now. If you're interested in joining this organization e-mail me at [email protected]

    please be sure to include:
    Name(nickname could be included):
    E-mail Address:
    AOL SN:
    Homepage:
    *Position Wanted:
    **Experience Level:
    *Here are the positions available.

    Co-Admin: Co-leader of the group. You could help me recruit some members. Knowledge of C++ isn't required for this group.

    C++ Novice Team(students): One of the many rookies I expect to join this group. Minimum knowledge of C++ is required.

    C++ Veteran(teachers): You'll be acting like a teacher. Or a C++ Mentor.

    Designers(students): Newbie game designers/computer artist are what fill up this area.

    Designers(teachers): You will be teaching the designer students how to properly do stuff.....

    **Here are the experience levels:
    1: Knows a few C++ functions.
    2: Knows enough to make a good program.
    3: Knows enough to be teacher.
    4: Knows enough to make a game.

    Haven't you already posted this several times?
    I was born; I shall die. Between those two events there is life. I don't know why, and I don't question it; I merely live.

    Ow!!OWOWOWOWOW!!! My brain hurts!

    I would ask to close the thread, but can we make it a sticky? pretty please? I think this is the most hilarious thing ever posted!: "yes I did, the first one was deleted. How else am I suppose to recruit C++ coders?"

    Hey, genius, did you happen to notice your other one was closed, and the comments in it from the mods? Get a clue.

    You're not, that's why the previous threads were closed. If you want to solicit programming talent then do so in private with emails. Email the best programmers you can find, they may even read the mail before promptly moving it to the trash can.

    The other thread wasn't deleted. I closed it because you were breaking the rules of the board by bumping it on multiple occasions... Come to think of it, I should have just deleted the damn thing to begin with - you've already posted the same damn message like 3 times. Recruitment on the boards just tends to irritate people, especially if it's done so many bloody times... I'll leave this open for you to reply, if you want, but I think if I see any more of your threads that have the exact same message as the last one, I'm going to delete them.

    Side Note: Knowledge of C++ isn't required for the people that are running the group? You're begging for failure....

    ethic's random game-industry thoughts...

    Argh! I don't know why, but this bugs the hell
    out of me. Everybody wants to be a designer, yet
    they don't want to learn any of the skills that are
    required for the actual creation of the game. God,
    I'm trying my hardest to fill my hollow head with
    enough information so I can create my own game;
    yet billions of lazy, teenage-wieners (I can make
    fun of teenagers now. As of last monday, I'm 20.)
    are trying to flood the industry without trying
    to learn a friggin' thing. It just, tah, eek! Stop!

    Of course I'm not saying every teenager is
    a lazy wiener. Most teenagers that come to this
    board, like -Ken-, are very dedicated and smart.
    I wish I was as smart as them...

    The position of Designer/Director is garbage. The
    creativity-aspect in the development of a game is
    usually the best part of the whole process.
    Personally, I think it's idiotic for someone to
    think that they're actually going to be hired as a
    game designer without first learning any relevant
    skills. Oh, I'm also tired of reading ideas that
    aren't even possible. You know, like "a game, that
    has, uh, billions of people on screen at one time.
    And the graphics, they're like super-realistic."

    Testers should only be required in games released
    specifically for the console-market. PC gamers
    are more than willing to beta-test games; I think
    thousands applied to beta-test Tribes 2 before
    it was released. I'm sure Blizzard had no
    trouble finding volunteer testers for Warcraft III,
    either.

    This is not an original idea. Message Boards and
    Newsgroups are littered with these types of
    messages everyday. Go to alt.games.programming
    and I bet you'll find a dozen "I'm 15 years old,
    a game designer, and am looking for programmers,
    artists, and musicians to make my game for me"
    threads that have been created this week alone.

    Oh, I also think that it's really difficult, if
    not impossible to create entire games over the
    internet. Hehe, anybody remember Heavenly Bodies?
    Anyone know how that game is going?

    Wow, it's been almost a year since we were all
    introduced to Heavenly Bodies. Time goes by too
    fast.

    I'm sorry, everybody. But there's only so much I
    can take before I feel I need to reply to spam.

    Oh, and I hate John Romero. I read an interview
    where he said that the game-industry is too crowded;
    that it's filled with a lot of people who have
    no place being in the industry. I agree with this,
    but I don't know if I agree with him saying
    it. I don't know if he's aware of this, but
    'Daikatana' and 'Hyperspace Delivery Boy' are not
    works of interactive-genius.

    Now, if you'll all excuse me, I have a sandwhich
    that needs eatin'.
    Staying away from General.

    I agree with you on many points. I bounced around lots of game development projects in the past (not many got anywhere) and there were lots of people who couldn't code their way out of a paper bag trying to make teh next ultrrra supar 3d gaem.

    Daikatan was a horrible waste of cash, but 'Hyperspace Delivery Boy' at least was finished inside a very small time frame. I think John Romero can still redeem himself - at least this time around he actually programmed.

    Ooohhh, heavenly bodies. That was hilarious. The dyslexic, obviously mentally deficient woman looking to have people program an "adult game" for her. What was the address? like nestegg.ath.cx or something?

    I'm no big John Romero fan myself but I agree with ggs. At least he (Romero) can code his way out of a paper bag. The Daikatana fiasco aside you've still got to give him his due for his work at id.

    Guys - Mynix is still a member of the board, so...

    The game idea was really funny, though...
