Firstly, it was harder to find (well this is a cop out as I didnt really look).

Secondly, I just dont feel like I'm Welsh anymore. I have lived in Cardiff all my life. I have never learned Welsh, my father didnt and my +80 year old grandmother got by without it too. Now we have an active policy in this country to try and get the use of Welsh on the same level as English. WTF!?! I already speak one of (if not the) most wideley used languages in the world. No-one except the Welsh speak Welsh..... If I was to learn a new language, I'd learn French or German or Japanese...... They are much more useful to me.

In my job I have to send regular correspondance to people around Wales for various matters. Because the organisation is publicly funded, I must also send a copy in Welsh. I and most of my collegues only speak English (as do most in this area), therefore I have to have my letters translated. On occasion I have had a reply from a letter that has only pointed out the grammer mistakes in the translation (Welsh seems to have many regional variations) and not replyed to the subject relating to the letter I sent. Also, if I dont translate, I might get a letter of complaint as I am writing to them in "the other language" (this has actually happened!!!!). It's more than my job's worth to get angry and try to have a go back at these rediculous pedants.

I think most of these idiots have a go because they know I'm from Cardiff (this city is blamed for every ill in Wales, second only to England). Plaid Cymru (Wales's national party) are trying to promote a policy where all companies in Wales must adopt a Welsh language policy..... When this comes about I'm moving out of Wales for good.

I'm sorry for ranting - its just that I have work tommorrow and the aggression is building up in me already. I do actually like South Wales - it's my home, but my experiences with the rest of Wales leave a lot to be desired.

Merely doubleanti's slightly misguided theory that a Monopoly piece represents balance and his attempts to use in such a manner. Sorry, da... it's actually the top hat...

Agreed. As if *that's* going to happen. That's laughable. It's a dying language sad for some but true.

No-one except the Welsh speak Welsh.....
Sometimes not even that. I attended a state school for my GCSEs and I had the Welsh language rammed down my throat. Everyone I knew who had been forced to do the GCSE resented it and could not be bothered to even try and learn it.

I might get a letter of complaint as I am writing to them in "the other language"
I'm curious. Do they write the letter of complaint in English or Welsh??

Plaid Cymru (Wales's national party) are trying to promote a policy where all companies in Wales must adopt a Welsh language policy.....
    *Bloody Welsh nationalists*.

It's okay I suppose in the north where Welsh is spoken but nearly noone in the south speaks it. It's senseless.

    Okay I've done my rant.

Yeah - laughable..... same here..... the only thing I remember is that Wales == Cymru and that SuperTed comes from Wales too.....

    >>I'm curious. Do they write the letter of complaint in English or Welsh??

Ha.. good point. No that is translated for me.

    Another case today in work....

    Phone rings.....

Me - "Hello, can I help you?"

    Stupid Idiot - "Prynhawn."

    Me - "Err...... Hello??"

Stupid Idiot - "Prynhawn." ::As if I didnt answer the phone to him::

Me - "Yes, Hello? Good afternoon." (I gather that this means Good Afternoon)

Stupid Idiot - "What?? You dont speak Welsh??!!"

    Me - "Well actually....No."

Stupid Idiot - "Well..... I suppose we will have to use english then?!?" ::His tone is is a mix of disapointment and astonishment::
I have to put up with these brainless wonders every damn day. Its not as if he cant use english as he is a bank manager for a major high street bank. I think he just rang me up to give me grief.

Superted comes from Wales?? I never knew that... Well, you learn something new everyday.

Stupid Idiot - "Well..... I suppose we will have to use english then?!?" ::His tone is is a mix of disapointment and astonishment::

So long as you can both speak one common language what's the problem I say? What a brainless idiot! (not you! ).
    I repeat...

    *Bloody Welsh Nationalist*.

    I feel for you...

Very probably (again for luck... *Bloody Welsh Nationalist*). I would suggest he was just giving grief to those of us who cannot speak Welsh and who don't particularly give a toss.

Incidentally, I had to study Welsh for the best part of 6 years. 'Bore da' is about my limit.

No one got above a C in my school at the time. Most got Es', Fs' and Gs'( I was exceedingly chuffed (not really bothered to be truthful) with an E due to my doodling over the exam paper not answering more than one or two questions). No one was bothered to, nor actually did any work as they didn't want to.

If it's forced upon young people they will resent and rebel against it.

    A common thought now.

Funny that... I took Welsh as a GCSE, but only because I was advised that it was a dos. I was alowed to drop the subject after 6 months (of a 2 year course) and then I spent 5 hours a week skiving or playing guitar with my mates (who were all on to the same scam). Still... cant recite 1 single sentance in Welsh - but I did learn the whole of Hetfield's part for Master of Puppets on guitar... So all's well that ends well...
