    click here to enter

    Enter here
    Click here to enter

    Why do websites do it, its irritating, you go to a website and want it to open but are forced to click on a link that says enter here to continue before it will let you see so much as the homepage. Grrr!

    They operate under the assumption that you are incapable of telling when you have entered their website unless they lead you through it. It gives the designers a feeling of power.
    The word rap as it applies to music is the result of a peculiar phonological rule which has stripped the word of its initial voiceless velar stop.

    ...it's tricky, however, as it might be on a banner which leads you to a completely different site.

    Btw, I haven't seen this trick on serious sites, only on some cheap porn-sites.

    They "warn" you that you must be over 18, adult content, blablabla, and let you through if you click on "Enter here"

    On Cprogramming.com you won't find such links (neither no adult content, at least not yet...well, the avatar might be a possibility, but 50 x 50 pixels is not enough ).

    Well, sometimes people put browser-detection code there, or warnings about browser versions; some people use it to track people visiting the site; others use it to display the pretty rendered bitmap they made for just such a purpose...

    i was on some programming sites and some software sites, and they had big front pages click here to enter the site. ! Why - just load it.

    Browser detection - my site uses browser detection and visitor tracking but the user doesnt know - its all seemless.

    there is no need for these pages they are ugly, useless

    <cuts rantings short>
