ok, when I think of one particle, I think of one pixel, just to have something to measure with. ( am I completely wrong about what particles are then? ) but one thing is sure, our book doesn't teach that photons are particles, but that they are waves with different wave lengths describing their effect... Also, the longest description of 'photon wave effects' (dunno what to call this) we deal with is Lyman's, dunno if that explains anything?

I think these things (particles and waves) are somewhat metaphorical, but even so they are not incompatible. A particle could wave

Check this out: M-theory - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No more waves and particles -- membranes and strings!
