Who said they're excluded?
More often than not, topics in the Linux board cover something POSIX related. Which (usually, depending on conformance) covers Mac/Unix. Plus the programmer base for those OSes is most likely less than that of Linux/Windows.
Nothing is stopping you from posting your question in the Linux board or Tech board. Solaris, Plan9, BSD, etc questions are pretty rare as it is. Oh and by pretty rare I mean less than 0.0001% of the threads posted here.

"Other Operating Systems" is silly, but I don't see what's wrong with "Unix-like OS's, including Mac and linux"

People already post UNIX-generic questions on the Linux board. Nobody objects. I think it's fine. Occassionally we get UNIX spillage onto the general C board but that doesn't really bug me either.

But if you're going to allow non-Linux specific questions in there, why not rename it and make it clear to newcomers where to post?
The only objection I can think of is that some Google search results may lead to the current URL's.
