I went and saw the day the earth stood still today at a movie theater and it was pretty good. Keanu Reaves was strange as usual but whatever. The only thing that bothered me was in the first half of the movie I must have saw at least 5 Windows Vista logos everywhere. It really ruins a movie(at least to me) when you constantly see payed endorsements everywhere, especially when they're for crappy Vista. Any body else see the movie?

I migth go see it tonight if the local show is open ( its new years day). The original is one of my favorite classic sci-fi movies, so im interested to see how they handled the moral implications or if they sugar coated it.

It happens... You'd have to be used to it by now. Besides, from my movie experience, Microsoft has been pretty good with the advertisements. I see way, way more Mac endorsement in movies. ... And what about Dell? Ugg.

Well, Apple had its chance to be #1, but they refused to believe that supportign the 'hobbyist' was an important business move. IBM chose differently, and when these 'hobbyists' became engineers, what system do you think they targetted al tehir design work for? It's not like Apple wasn't warned.
I saw the movie today and have seen the original, honestly I liked this one better. Others might tell you different but honestly as a person born in the 80s and raised in the modern day, I couldn't give you an opinion on the movie through the eyes of someone who lived in the 50s. I would argue that this movie was much darker in tone than the original.
The original I think was bogged down by the naivete of that era when it came to the portrayal of aliens and the military. What it did great was show how Klaatu gained knowledge of human interaction through hanging out with the child. It was most of the movie, him just being taught about humanity through a child's eyes, which I thought was powerful.

...it mainly focused on how the military fumbled a first contact so immensley that there was no hope of them to realizing their own mistakes. Klaatu in this movie wasn't even there to deliver a message of peace among civilizations, but absolute doom, and that they were there only to save the planet itself leaving humans to be erased and only animals alive. The development of Klaatu was mainly reliant on his talk with Mr. Wu which he later understood in his interaction with Helen and Jacob. It was much more dramatic.
Naturally the visuals were much better, I liked the way they portrayed some of the things like the environmental suit, Gort (Or should I say G.O.R.T.). I didn't like how he smothered some of his placenta suit on everything to heal wounds nad bring people back to life. And towards the end where little microscopic bugs started eating everything, but it eventually was a part of the whole endgame..
So my final verdict is that this was a good movie, it had great sci-fi elements, a cool execution of the story, some great scenes, and I think it's a different movie from the original. I don't really like modern versions of the old movie just to appease the fans, batman didn't do that and it turned out better than any batman that came before it. This was similar except they can't be compared because the times in which they were made are so far disconnected from each other that you just have to look at each one with different eyes.

I am looking forward to seeing this movie.
I found it to be an underwhelming story. So the alien is going to annihilate all trace of mankind because we are a vicious warlike species that is destroying the planet, but he decides to save us because we have emotions? Yeah, sorry people, but I don't think so.

I saw the movie last night.
1. It was a short movie.
2. Very little action. Reeves played the role of stone faced alien with aplomb. Oh wait, he played the same role in every other movie since Point Break.
3. He decides to save humans because he see's one hug? I guess the hug outweighs countless wars and millions of lives.
4. Most unsatisfactory ending. He touches the sphere and evaporates, and that's it. Show's over.
5. I still enjoyed it whilst I was in the theatre.
rating: 7/10.
