I'm asking for a new cell phone for Christmas and was wondering about some possible recommendations from you guys. I would use it mostly for internet browsing, and any else really isn't necessary. The BlackBerry Bold looks pretty nice, but the browser doesn't seem to be to good, or at least compared to the iPhone. I had originally planned on buying the G1 just for Android, but it got some bad reviews. Any ideas?

So am I. Thats why I want to get a new one. I just really like mobile web browsing. It's just so much more fun than on a computer.
Everybody I know that has a Google phone seems pretty happy with their purchase, but then again, I've heard conflicting reports online and elsewhere. As for me, I still use a Motorola V60, mostly (no plans for upgrading anytime soon, either).

for work I use a Samsung i780, which I'm happy with as a PDA and reasonably happy with as a phone (speaker could be better).
Privately it's a u700 which is very nice but not much use for web browsing (but then, I don't care about that. I want a phone to work as a phone and for the occasional SMS, nothing more).
I have a Nokia 6220 that I'm happy with. It's not very "internet" - you may want to go for an E-series Nokia if you want a full(ish) keyboard .
Or perhaps wait a little whle longer for the 5800 Xpress.

I would stay clear of the iPhone. Clearly it is not up-to-notch right now.
It lacks basic functionality that all other phones from other manufacturers have taken for granted, and 50% of its owner complains about technical problems.

They typically all complain of loss of signal, dropped calls & such.

Whether or not it will get them, I don't know. I have also heard how Apple is being unfair with some features that they charge for and how they are unfair to some developers on their App Store.
Not the best phone, but none is perfect. Yet, I would avoid the phone until some of these horror stories go away.

Anyway, you're better off with an old school phone or a big fancy one. I can't stand how it takes almost a second for a "standard" colour phone to change screens. Not all of them are slow, but my goodness I'd rather use a string and a cup instead of some phones.
Yes, except this one is a little more special. Lots of features we take for granted in other phones are missing, like MMS. To me, that would be a no go. Why launch an inferior product with a higher price tag?
Further, the dropped calls is a huge problem, especially when so many people are reporting it. This is reason enough to wait with the iPhone until they get this sorted out.
How about the BlackBerry Bold 9000 or the BlackBerry Strom. I'm using BlackBerry Bold 9000. And I love it. It so handy, the QWERTY keyboard helps you to type in the text pretty quick. It has all the possible technologies which you need. The only odd thing about the BlackBerry’s are, they are pretty huge in its size, but I guess RIM would have already noticed and they might be working on it!
But yeah Blackberry could be you next option on your list of mobiles. You might have to find a good carrier to get all the features working on your BlackBerry.

The Bold or Storm, but I prefer the Bold for browsing, given it's resolution (especially over the iPhone).
I freely admit though, my viewpoint may be biased as I was a developer for both
