    cpwiki vandalism

For those of you who care, during my routine checks for activity I discovered that http://cpwiki.sf.net was vandalized. I've reverted some articles and still looking for more reversions that need to be made, but we have several new pages. We should decide what to do with these exactly.

And user pages were also edited. If you have an account at our wiki, you should modify your pages.

An administrators presence would be lovely... speaking of, do we even want to continue this?

I admit interest is poor, but it's a place to submit new stuff, more up-to-date stuff and that. At least it's a good place for when you feel the time is right.
Anyway, administrator presence would be good, or if they do not have time, appoint another one who has the time.

Yes we do, but quite frankly I'd attribute the lack of interest to the speed of the server (or lack of). I haven't used my account in so long I forgot the password, oops.

dwks was talking about moving it to his server (which would be fantastic). I did make a backup of the wiki... but that was a few months ago. Perhaps if anyone has a faster server (cough, dwks), then we could use a more updated wiki -- including various programming plugins.

Or perhaps, the current cboard FAQ could be re-vamped to allow community input? I'm not trying to scab, if I had access to such a server I would host it...

I don't really care where it is so long as it actually serves the purpose that cpwiki intended. That's an idea, too.

Elysia, what did you mean by this?

And what is your description of the purpose for which cpwiki was intended?

I meant if you had the feeling for writing some good tutorial or information about mistakes, bad practices, etc, you can publish them there.

And what is your description of the purpose for which cpwiki was intended?
For the community (eg us) to be able to contribute in terms of writing tutorials, guides, etc. Help on things, avoiding mistakes, bad practices and more. Answering commonly asked questions.

Mhmm, well, as great an idea as revamping the faq on the web site might be I have trouble getting kermi's or Alex's input on anything, personally.

I think that's one of the reasons cpwiki was created? Now if only it could be moved to a faster server and some more people willing on updating and checking some of the articles, everything would be dandy.

That would be good, dwks did offer a while ago -- but he's not online much (internet or something). I don't want to offer it on his behalf, that right is not mine... but if he reads this thread or if I PM him perhaps he might give in

As for porting the new articles, it would probably be best if it was done by hand (since the HUGE version jump in the wiki software may not even be possible). I've got no problem in doing that...

Yeah, pretty much. We were pushing for a wiki FAQ on CBoard, and there was a long thread about it, and I even PM'd the webmaster and kermi3 . . . but none of them said anything at all. That and some hot-headed person went and created it immediately.

Yeah, sorry. My online time is very intermittant, since I have dial-up at home that I rarely use. I generally wait until I have access to a high speed connection, which happens once or twice a week, and then get as much CBoard time as possible.

I wouldn't make a very good moderator, time-wise. I could try, sure, but I don't think it would work very well.

    Very funny!

To tell you the truth, I was pretty sure cpwiki was dead by now. I don't think I've checked it in a few weeks at least.

But it would be fun to have a fast cpwiki. I must admit that my server isn't the best (it's in Germany), but it would certainly be faster than SourceForge. The other problem with my server is that it gets a lot of spam. Seriously, there would be new spam messages every two days if cpwiki was hosted there.

So I'd be willing to offer my webspace (all -- what? -- four gigs of it?), but it's probably not the best option.

Nevertheless, unless someone else (laserlight?) comes up with some hosting, I think we should try it.

By "by hand" do you mean copy-paste? We'd lose the history that way, but I don't think that would matter too much.

Believe it or not, I actually installed mediawiki on my site (the then-latest version). I think I posted something about it . . . and then I just forgot, or let it go, or whatever.

BTW, for anyone who missed it -- there was a discussion about this (more or less) here. http://cboard.cprogramming.com/showthread.php?t=98863
