Thread: Spoilers suck!

Yesterday, I went and saw "The Dark Knight" (or The Dark Kniggit as I always call it, based on "Monty Python and The Holy Grail". ). Unfortunately I've read a lot of spoilers from IMDB before due to my over curiousity. And I regretted it to this day. It would've been a marvelous film if I didn't read all those spoilers. And yet, I was left with much dismay because it was not that fun anymore. I left the theater with a severe disappointment and wandering around the city for an hour just to try to settle my feelings. I guess I've learned my lesson. Spoilers Suck!!!!

As for the movie... well, nice joker. But that's it. I yawn at the sad hero stereotype. And I vomit at the "must be hard to be a superhero" scripting. The whole you are a fractured man, must be difficult to not be understood, or who is the man that hides behind that awful mask, just breaks my heart. Not!

Everybody likes him. He's popular, he's the hero of the day and even little children aren't afraid of him and look up to him. So what's his problem? Go see a shrink and stop whining!

I was never very found of the DC universe. Curiously enough their villains were always much more interesting than their heroes. And the exact same thing happens on the movies from Superman to Batman. I only hope this is the last one.

I much prefer the recent round of Marvel comic based movies than Batman. I think we are finding that Batman on film just doesn't work for the most part. However films like IronMan, Fantastic 4 series, Spider Man series, and the X-Men series (save for the last) work very well on film. I don't know which ones of these are Marvel, etc. b/c I'm not a huge comic geek but I normally love every movie based on the Marvel comics.

I like XMen 1 and 2 and Fantastic 4 b/c even though they are in the same predicament as Batman they don't just whine the entire movie. Eventually they come face to face with who they are after they gain their powers and use it to help others. It makes for some great storytelling and excellent character development in an otherwise shallow plot. Best thing about X-Men and Fantastic 4 is the characters and not necessarily the plot or story since that is usually the same old same old. But the characters, including the villians, go through some major character transformations that make the movies interesting and leave you wanting to see more to find out how the character evolves. I would say Spider Man is pretty much the mold that most of these movies followed because it works. You can only expect the audience to feel sorry for the main characters for so long and then it gets really old. Fantastic 4 has a good guy that actually loves his new powers which is a refreshing change from the norm. After about a half hour of whiny feel sorry for the good guys stuff all we really want to see is them kick the crap out of the villians with their new found powers.

To me, Batman has always been whiny, dull, and not very original as far as the films go.

The only comic book movies I like are Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, Sin City. The rest are boring, uninteresting and overdone CGI-wise.

The Dark Knight is an excellent movie, mostly because of the Joker. It was good to see a villain that wasn't partly or wholly computer animated. The main problem I have with TDK is the editing. Many scenes (fighting scenes) are very blurry with too many cuts. If you were to capture a single frame it would be a meaningless blob. With a Joker like Heath Ledger, the movie would benefit from a stationary camera, longer takes and slowing down. The camera was moving a lot, in some scenes with dialogue it was constantly rotating around the characters. But overall it's an excellent movie.

To answer the OP: seriously, how much can a spoiler ruin a Batman movie? Sure, it's nice to go see the movie with an unbiased mind and to be able to be surprised, but that's not essential in my opinion. I will enjoy this movie the second time I see it as well. If all a movie has is a surprising plot twist, it is a pretty shallow movie.

Yeah, stupid me.

I was just got bored at work and just googling randomly and a thought came out, "Why don't I check IMDB?". And then I decided to see the rating of TDK. And curiousity got the best of me and so I decided to check the reviews. One thing let to another and you know the rest.

I personally liked (if not loved) TDK as Batman is one of my fave superheroes. I just love the antihero archetypes who dwells in the grey area like Batman or Spawn. They're more humane than the Superman that seems like an all goody-goody superhero. My most favorite Batman would be the one in the "Kingdom Come" title, FYI. The one where Batman become like a tyrannical despot that punishes crimes severely. As for the movie, the Joker is great (all hail the late Heath Ledger!!!). Harvey Dent (forgot the actor) is also a better part of the movie. The character development from Dent - Two Face is believable and good. Sadly, the Batman character isn't developed much. I personally wanted to see the struggle within Batman to whether he would cross the line or not.

True, but IMHO I would be more satisfied if I saw it without those spoilers. My opinion is already biased and spoiled by those reviews. Damn them (and stupid me )! And for seeing the movie a second time, I think I'll pass. Although the movie is great, it's too depressing to be seen again. I think I'll wait for the DVD.
