Damn, I meant to say, Boreland!
This compiler makes me fall asleep. How do you think they will compete with .NET?

Don't know. I'm not involved in .NET and I've planned to do that. Personally I'm not very interested in those internet stuff.
But .NET is a Microsoft product isn't it? So I guess that Microsoft will create some products which will work with .NET very well, perhaps even better than other products. I think that Microsoft will not tolerate companies being better with .NET than they are. And if there's a company that's better, Microsoft surely thinks out something to block that companies product in someway. That's part of the Microsoft strategy.
.NET is not just for internet applications, it is also for Windows programming.
Well, don't like Windows programming too.
What other type of programming is there than windows programming?
There are so many more OS's to program for than Windows. Take for example Linux, OS9, QNX, VxWorks etc.
There are many programming projects which don't require Windows. For example creating some software for a robot, or a communication device.
How would one program graphics in Linux, what language?
C or C++ maybe?

Or Pascal. Remember, Borlands Delphi, with the Kylix extensions works just as well on a Linux box as a Windows one.
Wave upon wave of demented avengers march cheerfully out of obscurity unto the dream.
Even on Linux you are still programming Windows however you have to choose the specific GUI such as KDE or GNOME. I believe that it is called XWINDOWS or X86 or something like that.

Hmmm. Ever heard about device drivers? Much software has nothing to do with Windows.
Anyone who gets bored by a compiler because it wasn't made by MS is a spoon with too much time on their hands. A compiler is a tool, not a frigging entertainment unit.
I quite like Borland compilers. JBuilder is an excellent Java compiler, very easy to use, great documentation. In short, I can get the job done, with minimum fuss and effort - Borland make professional compilers.

Systems programming, database programming, web programming...programming windows is not the dominant form of programming in the world. It is popular yes, but not the only form in the real world.

Well if you are interested in networking then linux is where all the action is.
Then again its also a tough market to make a profit in.
