Yes, every smoker doesn't value life. Actually, why don't we all just kill ourselves if we disvalue life so much? Its better than getting cancer and dying right?

And good luck getting cancer by age 70 if you're doing less than 2 packs a day.

A smoker is less likely to value his life more than a non-smoker.

What cracks me up is people who don't smoke think they're going to live forever. Bah... Hate to break it to ya, but you're not.

Of course not, but it's about quality of life. I don't want to lug around an oxygen tank and be unable to climb a flight of stairs when I'm 75.

Naturally, I also don't want to interfere with anyone else's choice to smoke all they want.

Fair enough. You hate me, you hate Albert Einstein because he smoked too, you hate soldiers that value their country more than they value their lives, you hate storm chasers, you hate coal miners because most will die of cancer in their late middle age, you hate daredevils,...
You would be right in saying that I hate all of them if smoking was your 'profession'

Cancer is not an imaginary issue. My grandfather who only smoked under one pack a day had lung cancer, piece of his lung had to be removed, now when he even walks a little, he starts gasping for air and gets tired instantly.

I think there's a little genetics involved. My grandfather smoked from 9 years old up until his death at the age of 87. He was a coal miner for 40 years. He was just one tough, old polish man. He had a stroke (refused medical attention), so by the next day he was pretty well done in by it. Up to that day though, he still walked a half mile up the road to meet his remaining buddies for a beer n' whiskey, tended his garden, cut his firewood, etc. Smokin' never slowed him down, although seeing that his brother and sisters are still alive and in their late 90s, I'd assume he lost about 10 years due to the habit. Not bad though -

Yea, basically. I smoke mostly since I work outside, hate bugs and I run the daily risk of falling to my death. Smokin' high up on a scaffold calms my nerves. I also drink since I figure it might be the last beer I ever have. I'd like to get laid every day too, but that never happens! lol

You can't honestly say that smoking can't shorten your life span; but if you can, then you need to educate your self... at lot.

I think it's time for you to say something nice about smokers Yarin, and wrap it up.

A lot of people here have a very naive view on smoking - it's bad and people who do it are worse. What you've gotta remember is that most people start smoking when they're young and prone to peer pressure (it's true). They'd probably find that wanting to fit in is a lot closer to reality than thinking about their 70's, oxygen tanks and stairs. Cigarettes, like grapes (I'm nearly sure of it), are riddled with nicotine. Are you going to label people who wanted friends at the age of 14 and who at 30 can't stop? I only know a handful of people who enjoy it. Most, I find, want to give up but don't have the will power.

    Attachment 8209

I neither like or dislike smoking or smokers. I voted 'yes' because I didn't see the third option (could a mod change my vote, please?), which describes me exactly, with cigars though.

    >> Bah. There's more dangerous toxins being belched from the exhausts of planes, trains and automobiles (not to mention countless industrial plant sources and their emissions) that dwarf anything the burning of a cigarette can do to non-smokers.
Heh. Can't wait until they market that in cylindrical smokable form! Lets call it 'Deathing'.

    >> A smoker is less likely to value his life more than a non-smoker.
If anything because they know they're probably gonna get less years from it they'll probably value it more.

If you want to give it up badly enough, then you'r will power will do the job fine.
I know several ex-smokers, and they all say quitting was well worth the suffering.
