Java is pretty similar (and should be pretty quick).
Or PERL, it's a very versitile scripting language.
Once you learn how to program in general, learning another language comes very quickly.
learn straight C and Assembler(at least the basics).

I'd learn some VB and C# to use with Microsoft's .NET, because it's really helpful and fast to be able to use multiple languages to make a project.

I would suggest learning a -little- bit of assembly, just for the sake of having some concrete idea of how computers actually work.

If you know C syntax you can make it anywhere.
Mixing languages with MSIL seems more of a way to make a mess than a way to make better programs. It reminds me of bestiality.
