    Eurovision Song Contest 2008

    I've made my mind already.

    12 Points - Bosnia & Herzegovina
He looks and acts completely insane. 12 Points.

    11 Points - Armenia
If there is something nicer than a sexy blond, that's a sexy brunette. 11 Points. Song, 0 points.

    10 Points - Finland
It's not new, but it still needs guts to bring hard rock to the ESC. 10 Points. The actual hard rock, 0 Points. Go home!

    1 Points - Greece
0 Points everything. 1 Point promotional video...

    0 Points
Everyone that brought Spanish rhythms. And that also disqualifies Armenia. Tough luck.

    ---

I know there's a second semi-final to come. But I won't even bother, except for:

    12 Points - Portugal! Ah!
She's fat, 6 points. She's ugly 6 Points. Take that MTV *finger!*
Song, 0 points. I throw up everytime Portugal brings a song about the sea.

EDIT: Can a Moderator please fix the typo on the title? Thanks.

I wish I was more in touch with what's going on in Eurovision, but I am not. Last time I really followed it was in 2006 when I was living in Italy. There was some good music though

You can tell from the above I don't think equally

There was a time I wouldn't miss it for anything. But then I grew up... But seriously, ever since they changed the voting system to have the population do the voting, the whole thing went down the drain. The quality of the songs is just dismaying. It got just too commercial and there does seem to exist this strange idea that a pop song to be danceable needs to have a Spanish rhythm.

I still follow it from a distance though, hoping a new ABBA emerges or something. Second semi-final is tomorrow night. Don't miss it and see Portugal sticking a finger at MTV... she has no neck, she looks like a man, she can't move right, and she's a big lady. Portugal sweetheart! We love her. Except for the song.

Hey, Portugal. What about IRELAND *shudders*. Though that said, that turkey was probably the most successful contestant we sent to the eurovision.

    >> There was some good music though
You were clearly watching another contest.

Oh. Yeah! Darn how could I forget it?... ok I'll change my 11 points vote:

    11 Points - Ireland
Having a puppet singing the whole song is deliciously ironic. 10 points.
1 Point for the whole confusion on the stage.

What confusion on stage? I didn't watch. I didn't even know it was on until I heard we didn't get in. I can't watch the Eurovision... it makes me cringe.

They had the puppet on the center on top of a box sort of thing where the guy handling it was hidden. Then they had heaps of dancers frolicking about sometimes dancing, sometimes doing something entirely different. It was... confusing.

The song was not entirely bad, I must say. Which is exactly why it didn't make it. Because they wouldn't ever allow a puppet to do better than their precious contestants. Go Ireland!

Hmm... second semi-final was today. Interesting... Georgia actually came up with a song. I mean, folks, listen to this... there was an actual song in the in Eurovision Song Contest!... It's ok. I'll let that sink in. I know...

Meanwhile I got my revenge on my wife for being forced into it as she made absolute sure she wouldn't miss it. When Czech Republic came up my jaw dropped. 5 half-dressed gorgeous playmate-material ladies and no song to go with it. Awesome stuff. I left my desk and joined her on the couch. When it was over, I left again without saying a word... 30 seconds later she mumbled something

Hang on. A song. You mean like ... music? But it's the eurovision... Have they been banned?

It's completely unfair towards the other contestants. Georgia should be disqualified.

Exactly how a lady is supposed to behave in this society ... I can relate with you.
But before I drift off to that topic:

Eurovision has been losing the quality over the years, today you can win as soon as you get something that resembles a song but has a great show to go along with...
I can still remember the days the Eurovision song festival was a family bussinnes as in: we could stay up late and watch the show together with the whole family and nice music was performed.
But since the quality of music has been degrading I've been following it from the sideline.

But as a Belgian I'm throwing my vote to - of course - Belgium , oh no wait a quick check on the website tells me im too late they are already out... Thats how far the sideline has gone over the years ...

Me too, and I'm not that old. It's a joke competition. The presenters are awful. Does anyone take it seriously anymore?

Woa , you are making me look like either Statler or Waldorf from the muppet show (I'm only one year older then you :-o), although im known for giving critique on alot of things (so that part might fit me).

Anyway, ever since more and more countries joined the festival it has lost its touch(at least to me). It's more a "I'm your friend if you are my friend" festival nowadays.

I think the people that might take it seriously are either between 7-13 years or 65 and upwards or something ... ~

I meant "not that old" as not being old, not in comparison to you. Heh. I think you might be right about the age ranges.

What annoys me most about it, is the feeling I always have of a missed opportunity.

Every single one of these countries have excellent musicians and singers. I'm a big fan of world music and always explore other countries music, particularly that, while not entirely traditional, has its roots on the specific country traditional music(s) or is strongly tied to its culture. I've listened throughout the years to simply amazing songs where (although I can't tell about lyrics) shows excellent skills in composition.

Now, the Eurovision was never a stage for world music, although about every country has one time or another brought their genre in. But... c'mon! Did it need to be a stage for trash pop? Absolutely horrid what they made of it.

GanglyLamb kinda described my earlier years. It was really a fun and pleasant family event. And we did listen to good music. Now, I don't know of anyone (my fan wife included) who doesn't say every year this is the last time they'll waste time with it.
