So today I find out another group practically is doing a similar project after overhearing our group convos and that sucks. Now we're essentially in direct competition.

But that's pretty rotten, the first thing that came out of the group leader's mouth was the idea and we were the first to submit it to the teacher, then the group listens to our convos and decides to do a similar thing. That's just rotten.

Get a software patent, sue the pants off your rivals, then quit school and live off the money gained

Well, why not complain to your teacher?

Since these people have demonstrated that they like to steal ideas, why not give them a few other ideas to steal -- ideas that won't work?
