What else do I consider rude? Hmm...

How about attempting to make a valid point in a debate when you clearly haven't read the opposition's argument?

... or how about planning even more self-appreciative spam to waste our time with?

Yep, you're certainly worth ignoring from now on.

    Hehe.

Anyways, you are right, Sly. There is a middle ground that not always is observed. Mostly because you get so hardened by past experiences that you just give up in being moderate. It's however a good thing to be reminded of. Thanks.

After 20 years of Microsoft (Goodbye and thank you for all the fish), I moved to Linux. The culture shock I feared never happened. Be smart.

(Goodbye and thank you for all the fish) <-- that has confused me for the past month and a half.

You see... You evaluate my message as rude - and as a result make your ignoring me - polite action. And even do not try to see my point here - that I may consider my message polite and see your ignorance as rude... You place yourself before me... But when I pointed on that earlier - You started to object... As a result - just proved my point...

The problem is some people like manav and sly seem to need to be the center of attention. If everything doesnt go their way, its because someone else is being 'rude' or 'immature', not because they are inconsiderate of other people's time or opinions.

I have to apologize to myself because I couldn't resist this one...

Ok, so you can think that your ego is polite and my choice of ignoring your egotism is rude... you can also kill someone and think you're doing people a favor, but society and law would disagree. Do you think maybe that NAMBLA had a point because they thought what they were doing was acceptable behavior?

As I said... but of course, you never bothered to read... "rude" is not a relative term... it's defined by society. Now, if you want to go around and ask people if bragging about your achievements is rude, then I'm sure you be less than satisfied with your results. Thank you... now to resist temptation of replying to any more of your nonsense, I will another of this forum's great systems. The ignore list.

And you feel you are only the center of attention when you barge in and blaze your gun in offense mode. You are well known by now Abachler. There's very little you can say that is going to be taken seriously.

I suggest a change of attitude, but... you are too old for that, aren't you? Right.

Have you read the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
Precisely. And me thinking it was the second most read book after the Bible. Regardless, that signature needs to change. It's old news now.

Even having sample of message 2 people evaluate differently you continue to say this... What it makes of you?..

Well there's two stances you can take:

    1) Rude can be defined out of context
    2) Rude is a matter of interpretation unique to each individual

Either way, this thread started out as suggesting that this forum was no place for fraternizing with your fellow programmer and is now somehow the proving grounds for a semantic debate on the word rude!

Heh, this made me think of Sarge from Quake 3 mowing down zombies with his chain gun and the sorry remains of a cigar in his mouth..

Not at all... what we are arguing is what would be acceptable to be considered "rude," "not polite," "bad behavior," or whatever you wish to call it. The issue is that those who are too important to waste their time reading what people are posting (who just happen to be the same people that are "too important to reply to their PMs;" Not you Mario) seem to believe that if you don't completely agree with them, then you must be completely against them. As it has been said... there is a moderate stance in this issue and I've already established myself to it.

That said... I'm pretty much done with this discussion as it's been completely worn thin and has become nothing but direct attacks and bickering. I haven't ignored the people I don't agree with... only those who put no value in the opinions of themselves of others.

Just thought I'd add to this thread's original topic: I was just sent a (solicited) private message by a user with zero posts. So I guess it isn't "no newbies can PM other members", but rather "newbies cannot PM other newbies" or something like that.

[edit] The user sent me the PM first, so it's not like a senior member has to initiate the private messaging or anything. [/edit]

Well, that's somewhat worrying that users can send PMs so early. Particularly because there's no approving mechanism in place for new subscriptions. However truth be told, it has been a non issue so far, from all I know.
