Snow Crash!!!!!!! by neil stephenson
It is about a computer hacker guy in the future that goes into this avatar world in the computer where he is a master swordsman. He finds out that there is a new computer virus called 'Snow Crash' that not only infects the visual computers of others, but also kills the person.
It was really exciting.
I read it a long time ago... so I do not remember much... but it sticks in my mind as a great book.

Tom Clancy's Net Force series is great. It is set in the year 2010, and the Internet is huge. A special task force called Net Force is created to stop virutal terrorist threats and the like. I just bought the first book today, and haven't been able to put it down! It's very readable much moreso than his military fiction books (which are good, if not a tad wordy).
The Soul of a New Machine
Really, this book is about processor development, and the computer industry (20 years ago), but it's very well done, it's true, and as someone who works with computers, you'll probably be better for knowing what goes into them.

Have to agree with Jock on Ian M. Banks. Look out for his 'culture' novels - my personal favourite is 'Excession'. Feersum Endjinn is also very good.

I forget who its by, but its about a bunch of programmers and debuggers who quit from MS to go work for themselves.
