    MFC book recommendations?

    Hi,
It looks like I'm stuck with MFC, so I'm gonna need a good book about how to use it. Any suggestions on which is best/easiest? I need more than a quick reference but less than an encyclopedia.

    ^You don't have to...
You can use another framework such WinAPI, wxWindows, .NET, among others.

    You can't both be right

Are you also stuck with VC6.0 and the MFC that ships with it?

I'll take that as a yes then. Since it is old, you may have luck searching for older MFC books that are now online. Google("free MFC book") ect...

MFC is not old anymore. It is getting a huge overhaul in MSVS 2008. I have a book called MFC Internals which is a very in depth explanation of the documented and undocumented aspects of MFC. It is not for beginner's and it goes very deep into MFC.

As much as I hate MFC, I think Petzold wrote a book specifically on it that is pretty good.

I am mistaken on the author, but Microsoft Press did put out a book on MFC in similar format to petzolds.

This is a very good book with MFC and Visual C++ 6.0:

You'll be programming in MFC in no time It goes step-by-step for the most common GUI controls, DLLs, etc.
