    Unbelievable!!

    After the last round of windows updates, every single open file dialog in every single application exited instantly as soon as I click on the file type drop down!!

    After Google'n for a bit (to no avail), I remembered this thread. Went back and deleted that damn .pc key in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT, rebooted, and it's fixed....

    I hadn't rebooted since adding that .pc key - so the windows update may of had nothing to do with it.

    Unbelievable!!

    Open file dialogs are very intimidating to novice users and now they seem dangerous too.

    There was a related thread some time ago in newsgroops where OpenFile dialog would crash if you had certain version of Adobe Acrobat and your app didn't call CoInitialize() before using OpenFile dialog.

    The File Dialogs are very nice APIs, and Acrobat Reader is crap as you've just witnessed.
    Further, Windows itself is completely unsafe, so it really doesn't matter what you do.

    Time to make our own <u>good</u> open dialog.
