Using AVI's from dll in animation common control

I've tried using ACM_OPEN message to load avi files into animation common control (win32 API) and always end up with a nasty, nasty error. I have used system dll's, my own diy resource only dll - but always the errors occur.

msdn says that v4.71 of common control dll should permit loading of avi's from dll,exes etc.

Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.
