preferred sdk for video capture under windows?

    hi all,

just wondering if anyone had any suggestions for which sdk to use for preference for video capture in windows? I can only find 'video for windows' in the platform sdk docs, but I have a vague memory of reading somewhere that this was circa win95 and there were more modern libraries.. unfortunately, my memory doesn't extend to what they were!

All suggestions welcome, although i'd prefer to avoid anything ActiveX based (about which I know very little!)

    thanks!

Never used, it but it should be portable and easier than DirectShow. I've heard DirectShow is the hardest and most confusticated API in DirectX
