    clear screen

    is there a function in the win api that clears the whole screen
    I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

    What do you mean? You don't want anything on your screen? No windows? Nothing?

    InvalidateRect( ) if you want to clear a window

    i mean if a window has writing and maybe a button, make them go away
    I started out with nothing and I still have most of it left.

    If the writing is done with a function like TextOut, just draw over it.

    For buttons, use DestroyWindow.

    Just draw over it will FillRect or some similar function.
