What steps would be involved if I wanted to find the transfer speed at some point in time of a particular process running in Windows XP? For example, I would like to graph the download speeds of a download client versus time, the same that NetLimiter does it.

You could use performance monitor (perfmon.exe I think) to monitor say "I/O bytes per second" for the process.
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.
