CD to MP3 Ripper
What's the best bet for creating a CD to MP3 converter program?
I was (perhaps naively) thinking I could use the WIN MCI API (i.e. the MCISendCommand) to do this, but I'm beginning to suspect I can't.
(Alternatively, can I use the MCI interface to record a CD track into a WAV file, i.e. by [crudely] playing the CD device output into a recording WAV device input).
Any ideas, or links?

Are you just looking for a challenge or the free ones just aren't good enough? Like Windows Media Player?
-
No its a commercial project.
In addition, I want the challenge.
Besides, Windows Media Player isn't an MP3 burner, it just plays them.

This thread had the potential to go to towards the "illegal" area. I'm going to close it. Nothing wrong has been done yet, but the question has been answered.
If you need to know more or you would like it reopened for any reason Davros, or anyone else, please feel free, and welcome, to PM me and I'll happily reopen it.

Bah changed my mind. I'll just assume those MP3's are for your MP3 Player ;). But let's not get into the illegal stuff.

This question is regarding a commercial software package I am writing for my employer. I can assure you that the intention is to remain legal.

If cprogramming.com were hosted on an oil rig* we could dodge all this legal mumbo-jumbo.
