    Not really meant to be here...

    Hi, someone once told me that you are not allowed to use Winsock API in programs that are not Windows programs. Is this true? Does this apply to specif versions only? Am I an idiot for wasting your time for clicking on a post of mine?

    No....

    If you are programming on a windows platform with a compiler that produces a normal PE 32bit exe file, then you ARE creating a windows program....

    If you are using consoles, then it might be advisable to rely more on the std libraries, as your code will be more portable......if though you need to call on some of the OS's resources then using API calls in a console is perfectly acceptable
