There are several links in the FAQ, (Frequently Asked Questions), even more in the board directory, and a well worded search at google for example, will reveal hundreds.

Hey guys?... I noticed a LOT of people responding to these posts with "look at the faq, look at google, use the board search."

But I just want to point out, I went to the faq looking for good links related to something I was looking for... 1 of the links didn't work, a couple more just sucked, and of the remaining few, only one or 2 were half-decent. Searching on google, you get swamped by MFC, OpenGL, and DirectX... and lastly, the board search does nothing, because nobody is willing to respond to these posts... Before, you could always find 1 or 2 relevant link-threads, but they have all been pushed off of the board. Now, all the threads that WOULD have contained useful links are terminated with "use google, search the board, or look at the faq."

So anyways, my point is: I think that it would be a very good thing if once in a while, one of these threads is answered.

    P.S.
True, the faq has a few decent links that might help... but there's a really nice site that ISN'T there:

... err, check the second one down.

The simple truth is that people, (not necessarily you, but browse the board a bit - you'll see what I mean), want a quick fix. They are unwilling to search for an answer themselves when the possibilty of getting it without the hassle exists. Hence the FAQ, and the read the FAQ/search the board/google replies.

Incidently, Sunlight was a member and moderator of this board who seemed to get fed up with answering the same questions day in day out because people did not bother to try to help themselves. Quzah said, and most of the regulars would agree, "'Top Secret' documents should be labled FAQ. No one would ever read them."

hehe whoops, didn't notice that The "www.sunlightd.com" thing threw me off (I was looking for "sunlightd.virtualave.net"). So ok, I get your point about the faq But maybe you should take the part about using the board directory out of your automated reply?...

Ain't that the truth! Actually, Hunter2 does raise an issue, and I can't do anything about it. There are some broken links there, (remember - the directory was built by board users submissions - so are only ever as good as the submitter), and Alex is not available to fix them right now. I do not have sufficient privilige do edit them.

I'll float a suggestion on the mod board, but frankly, I don't like to see to many stickies. Problem is if you get many stickies, then the real messages start half way down the page, and nobody bothers looking at the next!
