Question Will this PC run Vista if I upgrade memory ?

    Hello everyone,
I just did a scan of my PC:

    http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner...6DE3AF31D926C3

    and I have some questions:

Anyway to hack the hardware and install 2 GB ?

Can it run Vista with 1 GB ?

Should I get one 1 GB stick or two 512 ?

    Thank you.

Is this your system? It says it will support 2GB.

1GB usually works out cheaper that buying 2 1/2GB but I guess you would just want
    one 1/2 GB?

Microsoft site says Vista will run in 0.5GB

Vista will run, albeit not at full speed. 2 GB is recommended for the hungry Vista.

If you are a gamer, I would recommend atleast 3GB for Vista. That PC will run Vista but you won't be able to turn the swap file off with only 2GB. I done it with 4GB and 8GB without problems.

But honestly, I think you should sell your PC on second hand market, put a small amount of money on top and build a new PC, Core2Duo and Core2Quad can be bought for pretty good prices right now. DDR3 is way too expensive but DDR2s are dirt cheap. Depending on your wallet ofcourse.

My current system is a Quad core Q6600 with 8GB RAM, GForce 8600 GTS 256, swap file off.

I have Vista with swap file off on my laptop. I run a lot of programs, often simultaneously, without problems. I don't play games though.

Depends on what you do I guess. You turned it off with 2GB?

    I think I miscalculated something.

The scan shows max. memory capacity = 1048576 MB

I mistakenly took this number to be 1 GB but Isn't it more than 1 terabyte ?

Someone told me that most expensive PCs come with at most 4 GB memory ......then how is this possible ?
    It is this one:

It is indeed one TB. However, that's wrong. No motherboard supports 1 TB of memory yet. To my knowledge anyway.
4 GB is max for 32-bit and a lot of motherboards comes with it. However, some supports more. Some 8, some even more.

Is there any other site where I can do the same scan ? Or other manual way to check how much RAM my motherboard supports ?

    Your motherboard manual will know.
If you don't have one, you can visit your manufacturer's site to find out. You can also download manuals from there.
If you don't know what motherboard you have, Cpu-Z might help you find it.

A google of your motherboard name or computer name should reveal all.
Also you could download something like SiSoft Sandra (Lite) which should reveal all.

I think you can get it from the above link, it might just be for AMD but I am sure they do both,
the site is a bit confusing, I would download it and try it.
