    NEW PC, suggestions

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131200

Think this would be a nicely balanced Core 2 Duo based mobo? I'd go with ddr3 based ram and video card(s). Also, I'd run the new 45nm Core 2 Duo(e8500) when it comes out.

Can't wait to hook it up to my 42" plasma .

Definately not a gamers board, look slike its intended as a server. Clues -

Dual Gigabit LAN onboard - only servers or workstations need more than one lan

Onboard audio - servers generally max out their expansion slots, so onboard audio saves a slot, but most gamers prefer high end aftermarket audio cards, which just means mroe steps to disable the oboard card.

6 SATA ports internal plus 2 more external, just smacks of FILE SERVER

4 PCI-Express slots smacks of multi-GPU crunching node.

Rather overkill for gaming, especially when you could spend that money elsewhere where it woudl impact the game performance.

That said I just ordered 5 of them

Thanks. Yeah, I've done some looking around anyhow. BTW, see that 4th review down or so where that guy said he uses 4 42" LCDs on that board with fairly maxed out CPU/RAM settings ONLY for trading?

That, is overkill! (if it's true)

7.1 onboard audio is just standard equipment. You'll have difficulties finding a board without onboard sound. I think the best hint for being a server board is the RAID controller.

I have no idea what kind of computer would need four PCI-E 16x slots.

I don't know the specifics of running multiple displays but at work, we have these huuuuge glass coating machines that are in the 10s of millions for cost. Each has a control booth that has about 4-5 people operating it. They have a 50" main LCD, a couple 32" smaller LCDs and then a good 10 15-20" LCDs. There is also a maintenance console outside the coater's main control booth where there is a wall of, once again, around 10-15 LCDs. One section of the maintenance console has 4 screens running what appears to be one piece of software. It represents a piece of glass going through the coater. They need 4 displays running off from one program/video card to do this cause the coater is so long and the individual components on the screen are so small.

With the exception of the 4 PCI-E slots and two E-SATA, the other points you've made have been the standard on gaming boards for a few years, now.

To the OP, it looks good, but I do believe you can get much, much better gaming boards if you steer away from the DDR3 and 4xPCI-E. Honestly, DDR3 won't be completely mainstream for another year and DDR2 will still be more than capable for another two years after that. Also, why 4 PCI-E x16 slots, anyway. You planning on going QUAD-SLI or something?

Perhaps two dual-SLI setups, for four screens total?

I'm not sure the OP is thinking about going SLI since the motherboard has an Intel P35 chipset, and correct me if i'm wrong, but this chipset doesn't support SLI (without some hack).

    Is this right ?

I do believe only nVidia's 6X0i chipsets fully support SLI, right now. However, I'm pretty sure the P35 chipset is just a BIOS revision away from supporting SLI. I could be wrong, though.
