Doesn't AVG provide a means by which you can send them signatures for them to improve the product in future?
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

Well, I think AVG's virus vault is a hidden folder on the root of your main drive. It's called $AVG$ or something like that. If you enable "Show hidden files" in Folder Options (in Start->Settings for Windows XP), you should be able to go into that folder and delete it.

Note that this is probably a bad idea. AVG probably keeps tabs on what's in that folder and may not let you delete anything in it, or not like it if you do manage to delete something in it. AVG itself should be able to delete whatever's in the virus vault.

Besides, why do you want to delete it? If it's in AVG's virus vault it's not going anywhere. It will be quite safe in the vault. For all intents and purposes you can consider it deleted.

You should do some research. (And I should have, too, before typing up this post.) Have a look at this page: http://forum.grisoft.cz/freeforum/re...?4,41284,41284
    AVG Virus Vault

The AVG Virus Vault application is a safe environment for management of suspect or infected objects detected during AVG Free Edition scanning.

Once an infected object is detected during scanning, and AVG Free Edition is not able to heal it automatically, you are asked to decide what to do with the suspect object. The recommended solution is to move the object to the AVG Virus Vault for further treatment.

Viruses can be detected by any of various AVG Free Edition components, such as AVG Resident Shield and AVG E-mail Scanner. Viruses can also be found when running a test from the AVG Test Interface or even when using Windows Explorer.

    ...

    d) AVG Virus Vault Environment

Every detected infected object should be moved to the AVG Virus Vault. Within the AVG Virus Vault you can explore the object, delete it, or heal and restore the object if the cure has been implemented already. Also, you can send the object to the AVG Anti-Virus vendor for in-depth analysis.
    Here's even more relevant information:
I have some files in the AVG Virus Vault. What next?

Most of today's viruses (Trojan horses, I-Worms, Worms, Backdoors, etc) create infected files. In such cases the only way to remove the infection is to delete the infected file. When you moved the file to the AVG Virus Vault it was deleted from its original location, coded, and then saved in a non-executable file in a hidden folder. Your PC is no longer infected.

If you are not missing any data file and your applications are running, then you can delete these vaulted files from the AVG Virus Vault. You can do it selectively: - from the AVG Virus Vault program->select files->delete. Or you can delete all AVG Virus Vault contents in one go: - Open the AVG Control Center program->right click on AVG Virus Vault component->choose "Empty vault".

Note that files removed from your e-mails are also moved to the AVG Virus Vault. If you do not have a content filter set, then these files are infected and can be removed, as shown above. If you have set a content filter, then you should decide what to do with the vaulted files.

If you want, you can set automatic actions in the AVG Virus Vault. Please open the AVG Virus Vault-> Service menu->Program setting. Here you can set any required automatic actions.

[edit] I found both of those pages by googling for "avg virus vault". [/edit]

AVG is fine. You just have to remember to update it EVERYDAY.

It's free, not difficult to uninstall if you want (unlike most AVs in my experience. norton and mcafee in particular), and I've found it to catch a lot of viruses other AVs didn't. What about it exactly isn't good?

You don't really need to remember. Just set it to automatically update.

True, I'll change what I said: It's anti-virus is fine, it's firewall is what stinks though.

That's the reason I switched away from Norton. AVG found 14 different trojans all throughout my harddrive that the latest Norton was unable to find.
