I am currently using an old 2-Wire 1000 series ADSL / Broadband router that has a wireless 802.11b access point, but only one ethernet port. I would like to upgrade to a 802.11g or maybe even 802.11n.
My question is can I just disable to built in wireless access point on my DSL modem and hook and ethernet switch to it, with a new wireless access point and my computer hooked to the switch? Or would I need to get a whole new modem?
I hace an old DLink 4 port router that I have tried to hook to the modem in the past but the two did not play well together. That was before I realised that the moden had a built in router and I assume that the two were conflicing with each other. But I have never tried to hook a switch up to it.
