Overclocking? I don't see him doing all that much with cooling solutions, so I'm not sure overclocking is a concern for him. In any event, the E6300 will overclock better on stock cooling than the 3800+ does. ...and at stock, as far as I know the E6300 will take pretty much ALL the benchmarks. Now, if our OP is perhaps considering hooking up the Phase Change system that he forgot to tell us he has laying around to the CPU, then maybe I would suggest the 3800+, but for stock cooling... the Core 2 Duos are still running the show. Even the measly 6300.

Not true. The max I've seen an E6300 do on stock cooling is 2.4

Max I've seen the X2 3800+ do on stock cooling is around 2.9

Clock speed alone doesn't show performance, but considering the E6300 is marginally better at a lot of things @ 1.9, when the 3800+ is @ 2.0, I'd consider it safe to say a 500 MHz lead will surely give the Athlon 64 X2 3800+ a considerable lead.

Of course, every chip is different and you'll always have some outstanding performers and some really crappy ones (for both sides).

Also, if you're not into overclocking (which I see as free performance), you can still get a 3800+ EE SFF and save a lot on your electric bill.

When it comes down to it, I think it really is just personal preference and what you intend to use the computer for.
