    Hello everyone,

In my understanding, Windows OS for device is divided into two sub-categories, Windows Mobile and Window Embedded. And in Window Mobile, there are two sub-categories, Window Mobile Pocket PC Edition and Windows Mobile Smart Phone Edition.

    Is my understanding correct?

I have a further question, what is the common points and differences between Windows Mobile Pocket PC Edition and Windows Mobile Smart Phone Edition?

    thanks in advance,

    George

And your reason for not looking on the Microsoft site is?
If you dance barefoot on the broken glass of undefined behaviour, you've got to expect the occasional cut.
If at first you don't succeed, try writing your phone number on the exam paper.

I believe your understanding is a little flawed. MS embedded OS's are as follows:

    1. CE
    2. Windows XP SP2 (Componentized)
    3. Windows XP embedded POS (Point of Service)

Windows mobile is established by the MS Windows Mobile team. They take CE and add assorted components to make a standard platform SDK called Windows Mobile. Components meaning sockets, serial and web browser capability etc.
Thus, a developer can write one application for 99.9 percent of the mobile devices supporting Windows Mobile on the market with very minimal modification. Contrast this with Java, where you may end up developing a unique application for every mobile device.

There are no such animals as Windows Mobile PocketPC edition and Windows Mobile Smartphone eidtion.

BTW, I believe CE6 has just been released.
