Unable to open USB drive

When i try to open a USB drive after it was detected a pop-up error was displayed saying that "insert disk .........".

OS: Windows XP

By any chance do you have a card reader? I get that only when I select the wrong drive name. . . because I have a card reader that reserves drive letters in Windows, and reserves device names in Linux.
