directx help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ugh.....i have directx 9.0c installed apparently, but many of my games say that it isnt installed (warcraft 3, guild wars) but some of my games seem to work fine (oblivion). i have tried updating it, but it says the newest version is installed and that it wont continue with installation. ive tried dxdiag and googled some of the error codes and i never get anything helpful. ive uninstalled my video drivers and reinstalled them but it didnt do anything. is there a way to "roll back" to an older version of directx so that the installer will recognize that and update it? is there a way to force the installer to reinstall directx? has anyone else had this problem and have found a way around it other than having to reinstall windows?

btw i have xp sp2 and an fx 5500 (p.s. why are the latest nvidia drivers not whql certified?)

You can edit the registry.

START > Run > "regedit" > HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > DirectX

The Version key should be 4.09.00.0904. Change that to 4.08.00.0904.

If you're new to the registry, be sure to back it up before messing around with it. Also, your graphics card isn't nearly "the latest" in nVidia cards, and whether or not the card is whql certified is the manufacturers problem not nVidia. I'm pretty sure PNY doesn't certify their cards. It doesn't mean much.

wow thanks a load for the help w/ directx, the registry edit did the trick

about the graphics card ... ya .. its pretty ghetto, but i manage to get by with it : )
