    What the hell?

Ok this is weird. I've been having various problems with my machine lately, mostly crashes (BSoD's) and a couple of lockups. These occur more often in-game than anywhere else.

So I got to thinking, I'd better give her a good clean out. So I have. I've ran two spyware-removal tools, full AV scan, Disk Cleanup, Defrag and I've removed > 6 GB of stuff I wasn't using.

    So someone, explain this:

    WHAT?!?!?

28.2 GB is gone. Apparently. I've checked cookies and temp. internet files, everything. There is obviously the possibility that I haven't checked everything, so throw some suggestions if you have any.

I was ........ing screwed over with this machine too - it came w/o an XP install / recovery disc, so that's out of the window (so is buying one on the cheap off eBay since I couldn't be more skint).

EDIT: Update. An extremely disturbing one at that. Y'see F: in that window? I can't do anything with it. TBH I forgot all about it - it appeared after I installed Fedora the other day. At least I think so. Anyways I've just tried to format it (through disk manager and paragon partition manager) and neither of them can do it. Disk manager simply states that the format failed, PPM says "Unknown partition type (unsupported file system)". Err... what?

EDIT2: For some reason it doesn't say there, but F: is 22.01 GB in size.

Good class architecture is not like a Swiss Army Knife; it should be more like a well balanced throwing knife.

Ok I just remembered all the games I've got on Steam and since I haven't touched them for months, I deleted all their local content. I now have 24.1GB free so that's 4.1GB I've got to find. It's not that much of a worry - I guess it's all being used by Windows.

    Hmm.

Solved! All those crashes I've been having were focused around three games: Freedom Fighters, Hitman 2 and Hitman Contracts. What have they got in common? The same engine!

The problem was hardware sound acceleration, which I've had to turn down to basic. Firstly I simply turned off my sound card, then, when the novelty of playing games without sound wore off, I tried to see if just turning off acceleration made a diff - which it did.

i had something like tha happen to me, but with 8 gigs, i backed up the whole hard drive to another computer in my house formatted the drive and copied it all back (took a long time but i got my memory back)

i dont understand this stuff either,

i think it involves how theres the file size, and the file size on disk. perhaps defragging helps i dont know
